SNK Classics on PSN Network
While PS3 owners may feel sad about XBLA having SNK games such as MOTW and KOF 98UM (albeit with crappy netcode) there may be some solace in the fact the following are available on PSN… Japan.
- ATHENA -Awakening from the ordinary life-
- Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition
- Real Bout Fatal Fury
- Real Bout Fatal Fury Special: Dominated Mind
- Samurai Shodown Kenkaku Shinan Pack
- Samurai Shodown: Warrior’s Rage
- Samurai Shodown III: Blades of Blood
- Samurai Shodown IV: Amakusa’s Revenge
- Metal Slug
- Metal Slug X
- The King of Fighters ’95
- The King of Fighters ’96
- The King of Fighters ’97
- The King of Fighters ’98
- The King of Fighters ’99
- The King of Fighters: Kyo
- The Last Blade
Now it is important to note that these are Japanese language games, so don’t go rushing off to get those RPGs if you can’t understand Nihongo.? Otherwise, you can download these games (and a ton others, plus Japanese demos etc) and they will work on your PS3, wherever you are in the world, whatever type of PS3 you have (don’t quote me on that).? The only thing you have to do is create a Japanese PSN account.
Another thing to note is that these are the PS1 versions, and so do not have any online features at all, which is why I am still not going to do this myself.? I’m not bothered by the idea of getting to play Japanese demos of upcoming games – I can wait for the western release.? Of course, if there was a KOF XIII demo, that’d be a different story…? Anyhoo, if you want, here’s a guide:

Yes, that’s why it became too much like work. I played KOF KYO too, but got lost in translation.
It’s funny to see White in the 2k2um backgrounds – I wonder how many recognise him! Clockwork Orange hahaha
Ah, PS1 ports. Yeah, can’t say I want to revisit them. Even the Wii has better versions of Neo Geo games than PS3.
White is probably the only remotely good thing about Dominated Mind, and he’s never been used outside of that game. Otherwise the game was just a shoddy port of RBFFS with Alfred added.
A, well, playing the game takes for about 1/10th of the time if you compared with translating the game completely paragraph wise (and that’s what you where doing… don’t you?).
I cleared the first CD har har har…. But the other one had holes, scratches and dried milk on them and didn’t load at all (they where never mine to begin with, so no complaining about wasn’t feasible).
Well, I could read it pseudo decently when I played it so it was no surprise. More than a game, it was like this…. super interesting bizarre movie. In the same way, KoF Kyo was this awesome dating sim where you have to talk people into helping you beating up your enemies.
…. Perhaps I should get enough points for these two, though international transactions are kinda of a pain in the ass from where I’m standing.
I remember 98 being pretty good, and without loading times, could prove useful for the lazy man who needs it all on one console.

How far did you get with Athena? I remember writing a guide but just annoyed at the time taken to translate everything!
Worth noting that the ps1 ports of KOF (probably most other SNK games as well) are pretty bad, FF wild ambition and dominated mind are decent though.
Neo Geo ultimate heroes is also available on that virtual psp service (never bothered with the name).
That would mean that Sky stage (game that comes included with NG UH) is also available as well.
Athena rpg rocked.
