SNKP sues Square Enix!!!

In a nut shell, a Square Enix comic was making references to SNK titles, without actual permission.

“Square Enix’s main office in Tokyo and related personnel were raided today by the Osaka district police from a copyright suit filed by SNK Playmore…The claim states that SNK Playmore’s Intellectual properties were being infringed by Square Enix’s publishing division in their popular arcade manga “High-score Girl”. Police officials will be looking through confiscated evidence and will be conducting interrogations to the editor as well as author, Rensuke Oshikiri.”

  1. Didnt know they did that…

  2. It’s legitimate. They used trademarked names in something that gave them revenue. It’s not nearly as bad as Capcom suing people for concepts of games like platformers.

  3. SNK is slowing turning into Capcom.

  4. snk needs to bumrush companies who whose rollback netcodes for they can use it in their KOF games and other fighters

I did a bit of research for this by checking out fair use laws (http://fairuse.stanford.edu/overview/fair-use/four-factors/) and reading the last few episodes of High-Score Girl. Since from what I read in the manga there are references to arcade games Samurai Shodown 2 and Fatal Fury without any change in he presentation, I think SNK has this case.
