And the first reviews say…
From EGM:
Even as epic productions like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 continue to push the boundaries of what we expect for graphics in gaming, there’s still something heartwarming in the type of quality 2D that KOFXIII displays that simply cannot be replicated by any amount of polygons. From SRK:
Yet none of this would matter if a community can’t grow around it, which all but requires decent online play so you can compete with people outside your local scene. Thankfully, KoF XIII seems to deliver on this end. While this is admittedly a small sample size done in pre-release conditions, I was able to play several matches against an Atlus representative for this review and found the online play worked fairly well. Professor has this to add:
Quick heads up- Reports from two Japanese players say that KOF13 on PS3 is arcade quality gameplay on 4 bars. Optic fiber connections, 60km/37mile distance.

Only little kids complain this much about Online especially if SNK makes a patch then its all good. Seriously because the Boss was unfair? SNK Boss Syndrome no surprise (but that’s like saying that even played a KOF game also cough cough Shao Khan :l), Story was hard to follow (once again, have they even played a game…and when isn’t a story complex in fighters since they’re now explaining it). Then again…its Ign…so yeah
IGN and 1UP wrote fine reviews for the game. Giant Bomb put together a nice quick look of it here: http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-the-king-of-fighters-xiii/17-5288/
The game is getting the sort of reception I thought it would. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea and it is missing some functions, so the game got docked some points. They have all recognized that the online is a wild card and didn’t grade much on that point. The IGN reviewer had an issue with the story and the final boss, which will probably not be as big an issue for people who really like the KOF games.
I’m just glad to see the game getting as much attention as it is. I look forward to sparring with you folks on PSN.
Ocht, reviews tend to be baws, anyway, and increasingly irrelevant regarding what games I buy. In this day and age when anyone with the internet can write a review, you can find sometimes find a reviewer who knows what they’re talking about but more often than not, this isn’t the case.
I mean, that Gamerant review is just baffling. Even allowing for different tastes in games, it contains stuff like “the aforementioned 8-button special attacks (and subsequent input problems) will mean that players won’t really be able to advance far enough into the story before they are confronted with an opponent who is able to execute brutal combos in a snap – faster than players can even fire-off a special attack”.
This does not seem to be a person that plays fighting games, so, y’know…
Project COE 8.5/10 :

You know the old saying. You can’t spell “ignorant” without “IGN”!
gamerant destroys kof (http://gamerant.com/the-king-of-fighters-13-reviews-mole-117537/) 1/5, however ProjectCoe praises it 8/10 (http://www.projectcoe.com/2011/11/22/the-king-of-fighters-xiii-review/).
IGN review was pretty dumb….didnt really talk about the gameplay. and 6.5 for presentation? Really?
IGN review was poorly written.
