Not just re-releases, the UM editions had extra characters and system changes.
Funnily enough when I played kof12 and then looked at 98 I was like “wtf is this Lego shit!”

Last annual game was KoF 2003, the next game after was KoF XI in 2005, XII in 2009 and the latest XIII in 2010, 2002 UM and 98 UM were released sort of in between XI and XII, but they’re just re-releases.

Lots of those games re-used assets in the 90’s and early 2000’s. And you speak like Street Fighter never had a re-release every year, whether its an iteration of a specific game like SF3: 2nd Impact, or a new Alpha game.
Its not necessarily a bad thing that the games come out every year either. As long as they have enough changes to warrant purchases/continues.

Comes out more than Fifa? Back on the MVS before SNK went broke yes, but now! I wish that was the case, I think Andy nailed it, it’s my halfway between GG and SF, the characters are just frickin cool too, play CvS 2 and pick some of the SNK cast, you’ll see

So basically its on the same ground as MVC and Smash, all stars, tetsunoko…gotcha…now I know
I like the game as a more aggressive, fast paced fighter compared to, say SF4. For old fucks like me the cast is amazing, art of fighting and fatal fury and characters from a half dozen old arcade games all scrapping it out.
It occupies a space between Anime fighters and street fighter in terms of speed, the animation admittedly has never been a strong point.

though I say this, I did enjoy millennium one…BUT THATS ALL….none other….
I mean you have the crazy fast MVC series
You have the guilty gear/blazblue/persona series for anime style fighting
You have the street fighter series for beautiful SEEABLE combos that are not insanely fast to see wtf just went down
You have tekken which is combination style game instead of command based
Then you have KOF….I dont know where to put it in my head other then slow laggy animated delayed oldschool megadrive shit…
Its like virtua fighter on megadrive is its equal….
I will probably get destroyed for being honest but im just after the fans of the game to explain whats the big hubbub about it all as 25 years of solid gaming…I STILL CANT FIGURE IT OUT…
