Visit to SNK’s Office

Alright, so you may remember I’ve visited SNK’s offices a few times in the past, and perhaps like many, went on the weekend when they were closed, and just sniffed around the entrance and other times went to the wrong entrance… anyway, I popped in to harass, er, have a chat about their future plans, throw around some ideas, ask the usual annoying questions that test their patience, etc. ,

I just never put up the photos and video clips. So here they are.

Normally you would need to book an appointment but I was told to just pop in whenever, and of course when I did, the head guys were stuck in a meeting.  Hmmmmm.   Well, they still let me in to take some photos of their awesome new office.  They used to be stationed in Esaka and moved to another building, you may remember the metal stripes on the outside, right?  Then they moved to Shin Osaka, a couple of stops down the train line.  It’s a tower with a ton of companies, with SNK taking a couple of floors, for guests, meetings and development.

Here’s the video, below are the photos for further inspection.  Many thanks to Krispy Kaiser for the tour and Laurent for taking a minute to say hello!

Talking to ‘SNK’, they were certainly more entrenched in social media, and knew about the rumours and leaks.  Of course, they wouldn’t confirm or deny anything.  It was funny trying to squeeze them.  We talked about the fighting game scene in general, and their hopes for growth, they were quite motivated!

Here’s a more historied range of their collectables, with the now vintage Vanessa and SVC Athena, with the Kyo and Iori shoes on the bottom shelf!!
A shelf of SNK figures
I wonder if they have updated these shelves with their newer awards for COTW.
I don’t know how they managed to keep their Playstation sticks in such mint condition. Someone must be dusting this once a week. And there’s not even sun damage! The Geese plate is so awesome! Certain scalpers would love to get their hands on some of these carts…
So you can see, some of these artworks are around A4 in size, Shinkirou didn’t create at large scale!
Now you can see these are the originals as the paper is starting to curl. It’s amazing to be this close to history.

This is another display just past the reception, notice the golden Terry and there’s a Guinness World Record, which should be for either the rarest console game or most prolific run and gun shooter, but in fact there’s some link to Hamster Corp, who produced their PS ports?! I’ll ask about that next time.
Reception area
The main reception area is so swish, with a full size wall monitor just blazing the logo and game stuff all day long.

We actually checked on Oda and the team to see if they had finished their meeting, but alas, not.  So we walked around a bit more, to find…

And then I was shown the Iori room. Of all the Iori artwork they picked, it had to be this one. I was just blown away. And it’s so big! Tremendous! Terry’s room is nice and all, but this, this was jaw dropping.
If you follow SNK you’ll know that there is a mysterious fan that sends flowers for the characters’ birthdays. Always blue, and they are always presented in the reception area. This bouquet was for Clark Still!

Back to Esaka

While in Osaka, I had to run to see some old old friends, the original SNK tower, which is of course featured in the games.

Last but not least, we have to stop by the old KOF98 Stage in Esaka.  I’ll show you exactly how to get there from the station in the video below.

Visiting SNK is a bag of mixed emotions.  You can see that it’s new, with some traces of the old.  SNK is moving with the times, yet still has its roots.  The younger developers probably have no idea why we like KOF98, and still they’ve all played Street Fighter 2.  It’s strange.  Maybe one day we can talk about it, without having to ask permission from legal or marketing to speak freely…

Anyway, take a look at the old office photos, click here ]
