Questions for the guide

Post by Tel » Sun Apr 27, 2008 18:15

OK guys, the guide is well underway, but like mentioned before, I'm starting with re-testing '98 and working my way backwards. This means a LOT of stuff will be innacurate in UM, so I might as well post up some concerns I have for you guys first, and see if anyone notices the changes in their playing:

98 stuff
1. Ralf's charge b,f+A only does the first two hits (the 3rd hit only connects if the first two whiffs). The recovery time from Ralf's qcb, hcf+K DM allows you to time a qcf, qcf+P DM on opponent wakeup.
2. Robert and Yuri's (A) HSKK chainable now? I don't think the SDM HSKK for all characters can be chained into, but I wouldn't know about Takuma.
3. If I remember right, Kim, Ryo, Robert and Takuma's autocombo DMs have startup invincibility (that means no forward dash invincibility for Ryo unlike in 2k2).
4. Goro, Clark, Shermie and O. Yashiro's dashing throws are immune to low pokes and sweeps (but not fireballs).
5. Are the poke timings the same as 98? A lot of pokes in 98 can't combo with itself. What about the stun times? The same as 98, or do you have to tap faster like in 2k2?

More questions to come as I go along. Currently progress is pretty slow, and I've done only for 4 teams so far.

Can't really confirm everything for you but will try.

1. Yes, it works (qcb, hcf+K into qcfx2+P). As an added lulz, the CPU does that as well. Also, you can follow with air qcf+P after qcb, hcf+K since it can OTG now. For b,f+A I don't remember...
2. Unsure, don't think it has changed.
3. Takuma I'm pretty sure. Really unsure with Ryo and Robert.
4. This still works. As an addition Takuma's works this way too. Think EX Yuri's hcb+K works the same way as well.
5. Some timings have changed a little, but I think it's mostly left intact.

Just a quick notice to inform you guys that the 98UM guide progress has gone well, and I've finished all the team characters, so all that's left are the edit and EX characters together with the final bosses. I'm aiming to have a first release on Monday hopefully, within the week at the latest.

Just say it on gamefaqs. I must say it looks really good so far! Good job. :salute:

I suppose this thread will be dedicated to any contributions/corrections to the faq...

Thanks! I didn't want to make an announcement over here until GFAQs cleared it. I expect for there to be many corrections in the near future, and there are more stuff planned, like a list of special intros, ending pictures and possibly the track listing and colour edit info. Anyone who's played the PS version of '97, I'd appreciate if you could correct my movelist for Orochi, since I hadn't played the PS version in many years and I forgot what all his commands were.

And yes, please feel free to correct anything wrong with the guide. I'm already making corrections as it is.

Nice start!

Few things I noticed...

Q.Max doesn't do frame canceling, it sorta-kinda recovers faster instead. The gist is that because you entered MAX mode, your character moves a little faster and recovers a little faster as well, which makes normally uncomboable moves comboable.

EX characters have more than 1 winpose (just like normally).

I think you missed out on the rest of the Dokugami chain for Kyo and Beni's dp+K.
New info on Ryo, you can do qcb+AC where he retains the speed and distance of the A version while being able to cancel into his hcb+K.

I'll read moar later after dinner.

OK, thanks for the information. So in Extra's MAX mode, you actually move and recover faster? That's something I couldn't notice from the match videos. Does it apply for Advanced as well?

OK, the win pose part is outdated information I guess. But I'm guessing the Orochi team still have only one win pose?

I'm not sure what do you mean about Kyo and Beni though. Which moves did I miss out?

And thanks for the bit on Ryo. Making the corrections already.

Nope its not max mode that makes you move faster. Its the activation itself that makes that particular move you were doing when you activated max mode faster.

I guess 'frame cancelling' is a technically accurate term, but it doesn't cancel all the remaining frames, ala, 2k2 max mode activation. Just some of them.

I plan on getting the PS2 version of 98UM this weekend, but in case it's not available yet, can anyone post up the move commands for Goenitz and Orochi just so I get it right? BTW, Goenitz has a new move where he dashes forward, does a claw, then grabs opponent and summons his normal tornado on them. Anyone can give me the command, and confirm whether it links from his normals?

The command for the move is hcb f K

His has a f+A command attack, so he can do C, f A, hcb f D, it links. Same for C, f A, qcb A, OTG tornado.

Also C, f A, grab or chain supers works (not for SDM version of the chain super).

cr B, cr A, hcb f B works.

That was fast, thanks very much! If anyone can read Japanese, I'd like the names for Goenitz's new moves. I have the name for the hcb,f+K move from the other guide, but a second opinion can't hurt. :)

You're welcome, I really appreciate when people do things for the community like guides, faqs etc...

As long as I can help, you can ask.

:salute:
