I've been meaning to review this for a while since I've had my iPod Nano for a while. I'm just getting around to it now...
I ordered my 2GB iPod Nano from Apple.com back in October, a few weeks after it was announced. I needed it to replace my 1GB iPod Shuffle, which had been serving me well for 6 months now. I got the black Nano, which is so sexy and small: it's about as thick as a #2 pencil and as big as a standard business card. It's got the screen which lets you see what you're listening to, view photos/album covers, and even has a few games and other utilities. It also has a click wheel, which is pretty ingenious. Sound quality is good. As for storage capability, it comes in 2GB and 4GB flavors (I only need 4GB because I know I'll never listen to more than 500, let alone 150, songs in one sitting (I plug it into my office speakers at work and into my car stereo when I'm driving).
I do have two problems with the Nano. First, the damn thing scratches way too easily. About two weeks after I had it, my Nano's face was really scratched, and the only extreme thing I did to it was carry it in my pocket. Second, the battery life really sucks. It takes about 3 hours to fully charge, and Apple that the battery can last up to 12 hours. This is true, but only if you turn off a lot of the features (backlight, equalizer, picture slideshow). Of all things, I really wish the battery was better.
So, that's my mini-review of the iPod Nano. It's good if you don't want the regular clunky iPod or iPod Mini (discontinued). And it's a good mp3 player--but it could be better.

I know this is a really old topic, but I don't want people being misinformed. I'm also a Apple fan and Macintosh evangelist at heart, so I wanna make sure people get the right info.Mr1337 wrote:Meh. I'll stick with my 40 GB, indestructible, regular iPod thank you very much.
The Nano has got bigger balls than you think. I remember Shadowsonic giving me a link to a page where some guys did some unscientific tests to break the Nano. Biggest highlight was when they had some guy RUN A CAR OVER IT to see if it'll break. Despite its looks, it stayed together and still worked.
The only way they were able to break it was by tossing it up in the air (REALLY HIGH) and letting gravity take over and having it land on hard concrete, and of course this is AFTER they did stress tests on it.
So yeah, the Nano's Ralf, I won't be surprised if it can survive nukes.

I remeber my classmates thinking that the Nano wasn't that durable because of its size, etc. My 2GB Nano was dropped on the floor a number of times, even while a song is still playing... I found out that it still works.
Tossing it in the air really high and having a guy run a car over it?! I know there was one situation when the Nano totally got destroyed, but the person who told me about that stuff forgot what it was. Someone post a link to that news please.
Quick review:
Features: 85/100 (coz I want iPod Nano Video
)
Durability/ Lifespan: 97/100
Usefulness: 73/100 (so I can't save GT4 pics on a Nano, eh? Who cares? I got this for teh muzik anyway)
Bugs: -21 pts (sometimes won't display album art)
Total: 234/300 (I wish I got the 4GB one instead. I put too much Dance Dance Revolution songs in it.)
