KOF XIII Weekend – Gunsmith’s First Impressions
WTF have they done to my Ash!!!!
What I didn’t like:
- Throw being changed back to Fwd P / K.? I hate that.? I really do.
- Clark’s air throw is gone, or at least back to jump Fwd P/K.? That change threw me.? Pun not intended.
- With the reduced sprite size, Ash seems really puny, and feels weak.? His back and forward kicks really seemed to have reduced distance.
- The overly long combos that take off 80% of your life.? It might be fun to watch, but it’s boring as well waiting for these combos to finish, especially when you’re receiving one.
- SDM grabs still get punched out by standing A.? Ugh.
What I did like:
- Getting the shit beat out of me by Salim on KOF2k2um
- Not much else
- Seeing Shermie in the French stage
- Yuri’s dive kicks
Right now, with the level of play (casual), it’s like we’re playing a more complicated street fighter.? I was beating up people using Robert as if he was Ryu.? That’s not KOF.
Having a quick chat with Salim also saddened me as he revealed that France is suffering much the same as London when it comes to KOF: a decreasing size of community.? However, as I explained my plans for the clan, there was hope.? Salim should have gone to Tougeki, but he gave his place simply because he couldn’t afford to go.? He can’t even afford to visit London for a weekend because of his job.? I’m going to try and help, as I try to inject one last vitamin shot into KOF Europe.

Oh and tomorrow we’ll test out some more XIII.? And probably get some 2k2um matches recorded with Salim, who is top tier, as good as any tougeki player, you’ll see!

@Gunny. Yes we got patched a couple weeks ago, I think it was less than a week after Japan got theirs. You DO NOT surrender your current copy, the new one gets sent to you and then you send your old one back. Pretty cool.

Feeling much better about the game today, and also learned a lot about French politics – no not the strike, WGC2011 and KOF XIII… I’ll explain later. Kuso, tell Bata that clan members will get financial assistance (hint hint) but we’ll need to be able to contact him directly.
Kane, I’ve seen some crazy shit last night! Lots of fun, did you guys get the patched version? I can’t imagine any arcade owner giving up their KOF XIII for a couple of weeks as they have to send it back for a replacement (unlike in Japan where SNKP came to you). We need to come visit you guys!!!
My Benimaru kicked up some fuss, Ash is finding his feet but still no threat against Iori and K’… ouch. K’ is too sick.

Oh btw, Clark’s air throw is still there and like most characters (Mai and Leona) is any direction BUT up+C.
Secondly, getting hit out of a command throw DM is MUCH MORE rare than you think, it’s nothing like XII.
@UK peeps. Sup Alan, glad you finally got a chance to play XIII. Speaking of Salim, I remember playing him in 2K when I went over to Paris–I miss playing with you guys in Goodge Street (last time was ’01 or something).
Regarding XIII, KEEP AT IT, TRUST ME when I said we all didn’t know how to feel about it in the beginning, but I swear it grows on you, it did for everyone at AI and it will for you guys too for sure. We just finished our 16 player tourney and we’re slowly getting better; we implemented (unofficially) the ratio system and it was so much fun to see the variety–all 31 characters were used.
I told Bata about France, he said he’d come if he had the money and time. I’m still waiting back to hear from him again, he’ll come down to London again in the next month or so hopefully.
So will try to talk to him in more detail about it then, might be worth waiting to tell him to go to WGC2010 instead though i reckon.

Stupid technology – all these videos are taking ages to upload. Due to the casual level, I don’t think you’d want to see these, so I think I’ll just edit them into a montage when I get back on Monday.
