Apparently the '08 SBO KOF UM finals have been posted on youtube for a couple of days, how come nobody told me--slackers!

Sorry about that. I was too busy crying after I saw the Krauser Q.Max combo.

By and by, for anyone who doesn't know, the Taiwanese Tougeki Qualifiers are currently being uploaded to Youtube by NESTSZERO. These are some high quality matches and include 'Bun' 包子, who was SBO runner up at KOF98UM this year and 'Tiger Lord' 虎爺 who was SBO runner up at KOFXI last year. Highly recommended for viewing. Bun's Normal Yuri is a real monster.

All three matches were pretty intense. He nearly didn't qualify for SBO...craziness. Bun really likes light attacks qmax into d.C > ...

His Yuri is disgustingly strong.

As much as I wish that Bun had used Lucky in the SBO tournament itself, I think its obvious from these vids why he chose not too. Even with all his buff's Lucky still has major problems on defence. That big sprite just doesn't do him any favours when he's being locked down.

By and by, I've watched this like 10 times, but I cannot understand why Krauser's grab missed Orochi Chris at the end of the first video.

As far as I can see, Chris isn't in blockstun, and there's no crouching involved, so there's no alternate guard. And Krauser is mostly definitely in range to grab.

The explanation I can think of is if dodging in the middle of a block also activates alternate guard. Does it? If it does, it could be another huge reason to use Dodge instead of roll (the other being the fact that its better for escaping unblockable fireball setups).

No, it's just that you can't command throw anyone if they're doing a guard animation. What happened is Krauser threw a blitz ball, Chris dodged it, but the blitz ball was still active offscreen so he stayed in guard animation and that caused the command throw to whiff.

Usually command throws force the opponent to stop guarding so this doesn't happen, but that's what causes the fireball bug.
