Re: KOF XIII General Discussion/Rant Thread
It's some guy over Twitter: http://twitter.com/Tokirisan/status/7428491339374592" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I doubt that their information is concrete. Looking at other tweets this guy made, he's possibly throwing random stuff at the wall and hoping what sticks.

Well, rumors are rumors. At best we can only hope. Which I am because I didn't like how Botan didn't fight and Aldelheid pretty much dropped off the face of the earth.
The conclusion was about Ash/Betty as it should be but I would of liked if Botan was playable instead of her just wtf'ing @ Ash in the cutscenes.

Thing is, Botan doesn't seem to be a combatant character, but rather someone who works behind the scenes. At any rate she didn't seem to be particularly willing to oppose Ash when he backstabbed Saiki.

Re: KOF XIII General Discussion/Rant Thread
I'm surprised that people are still dueling on this, but "that guy that said" has absolutely nothing to do with KoF XIII development nor with SNK. I was reading that also supposedly he also "disclosed" information about MvC3 and everything was completely false and stupid; and obviously he has nothing to do with Capcom as well.Tel wrote:Thing is, Botan doesn't seem to be a combatant character, but rather someone who works behind the scenes. And quite frankly, it's so ridiculously obvious that Botan is just never going to fight anyone that it hurts. First of all, along with Mukai she is the only NPC that "leads" the story, so if they decided to make her playable that would imply changing pretty much every story sequence in the game to fit her absence, and secondly her ability is to control others, "playing her" would surely only entitle to have her manipulate some other character (already existing sprite) into fighting; just like in 2003.
Shion would have been a much more reasonable trolling if you ask me; and it's not like they can call the best trolling again (Adel) as that thing was already proven to be a bag of hair.

Re: KOF XIII General Discussion/Rant Thread
I'm not one to believe rumours anyway, plus SNKP tends to like to keep a tight lid on their development news unlike MVC3's weekly updates. I don't discount the possibility of console-exclusive characters, but if I were running the development team, I'd much rather put in characters who can be reused for the next game than turn a noncombatant story character into a playable fighter that's only going to see one use. If I'm guessing right, Saiki is probably the only character in XIII that's going to see one use, which is also why his design is fairly simple.

Perhaps this may shed some light in the lack of KOF XIII Console Info...

God-willing, I just hope the port will come out soon and I hope it's good (down to the netcode).Professor@MMCafe wrote: Note: all the links are in Japanese.
For anyone wondering where some of the rumors regarding SNKP's tight situation with KOF's current development status is coming from, it's from a supposed programmer who quit the company in late September.
http://twitter.com/boxerprogrammer" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I was taking it with a grain of salt and didn't think it was worth any mention due to lack of legitimacy until recently, when I realized that he was talking together with Dokimajo producer Yoshiyasu Matsushita about the company's internal situation.
His tweets has some very.. 'raw' tidbits such as this entry
"Around the end of the development period, I was sleeping under my desk with a towel rolled around me, laying on newspaper. It's just memories now, like the way how I almost caught a cold with the air conditioner on while asleep, or like how I hit my head on my desk when I woke up. XII's console [development] period was seriously really bad."
He avoids from directly saying the name of his ex-company, but there's quite a bit of entries about the workplace and its treatment. Like the way how his supervisor ordered the staff to work on a sleepover for a full week without letting them go home (note: the company doesn't have a shower room), or how he wasn't allowed to even get a replacement for a very unconfortable chair and had to wait for another staff to quit to swap it. The company simply seems to be tight on money.
For anyone nutty enough to scroll all the way to the end of September to read some entries of what seems to be about XIII's home port situation, feel free.
Some snippets are provided below. The figures sound small, and I'm sure he's just talking in terms of programmers.

don't listen to tokirisan, he makes up everything, and he did it during mvc3Gravelneed wrote:Rumored news about KOFXIII.
Here's the translation from Tokirisan Twitter:
"King of Fighters XIII will bring reveal new character next year, so far
... Botan is confirm as playable character, and more characters."
has snkp even announced console news at ces or done ANYTHING AT ALL? it's like they're purposefully making everyone disinterested enough to want to switch to mvc3 or blazblue instead, or even tekken tag 2 or mk9
thanks, snkp, you pieces of s

edit
BTW, KoF XIII has fallen from the top 5 small cabinet rankings in Amusement Journal (am-j).
The game was "good enough" to barely fit in the yearly top 20 ranking held by that very same organization, considering how that rankings are yearly it's hard to consider that result bad or good, as XIII doesn't have a full year on circulation, and the other KoF games are still at it strongly.
The image comes from Harada's twitter (sp(?)) and Goji-tan's soft hands. Harada is Tekken's main producer, thus there is a note about Tekken doing great on it.

Re: KOF XIII General Discussion/Rant Thread
After eyeballing some KOF XIII vids, my hype for this is parallel to MvC3. Want it. But from what I've read, no telling when that will be..but as long as it is less like XII and more like love, then I will purchase post haste.

Re: KOF XIII General Discussion/Rant Thread
Well, I certainly won't disagree when someone says that XII wasn't up to scratch, but I certainly don't hate the game. "No Mai, No Buy" has never been an issue for me, and I actually prefer the in-your-face Iori over the beastly zoning/spam Aoi Hana Iori from previous iterations. The new command grab is just so much easier to work with, I can actually do things with it (being a Sol player in Guilty Gear)!
That said, BRING ON THE XIII! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO-The netcode better be damn good, SNKP. License GGPO netcode nao plz kthxbi.

Lack of Console news makes me slightly depressed.
Just played KOF XIII over at ChinaTownFair Arcade (I was so stoked when I saw it was there). All I can say is that its the best KOF ever made.

Re: KOF XIII General Discussion/Rant Thread
Some anecdotal evidence from the Prof that indicates that maybe the Japanese are moving on to other games already:
Unfortunately to say this might be the last tournament that we could be seeing from Carnival; they've only got two KOFXIII cabinets now, and they've been moved right next to the retro fighting game section. The game is starting to disappear from arcades. The units are probably hitting the used market now.
I believe Shinjuku's Carnival had 4 when the game launched. December it was down to 3, now it's 2. At least two other arcades in the district took theirs out as well. Unfortunately, I hear that it's disappearing from many arcades in Japan.
If the used PCBs are making their ways overseas, 6 Weeks would make sense because KOFXIII is being pushed out of their cabinets by BBCSII/Nesica(12/9) and SSF4AE(12/16). The player population is immensely different.
XIII seems to sell out in second hand PCB stores as soon as they come in, probably because their price is only around 130,000 yen (approx $1600) in the used market. Good deal for a half-year-old game.
