Sadly, mainstream gaming media nonsense has more stock than we do. So if anything, we should be quite happy.SonicTempest wrote:We shouldn't put too much stock in mainstream gaming media nonsense, but Gamespot has named KOFXIII it's fighting game of the year, so that's sort of nice.

Re: KOF XIII General Discussion/Rant Thread
OH HAI!
I pre-ordered the PS3 version via Amazon but my friend hasn't visited the city. So, yesterday I Got my copy of for 360 at a local (Mexican) department store. Ironically enough, there are plenty and ALL OF THEM HAVE THE 4-CD OST PRE-ORDER BONUS!
The price paid for the PS3 version was slightly less, but stil...
I'm pretty happy with the game except for two things. The first and most immediate was that damn delay before jump. WTF was SNK thinking?! This made hopping quite hard for me. The other is, but of effing course, the damned netcode. Good thing they'll be fixing it. The rest is wonderful. Lotsa work but I've played like three hours between yesterday and today. Oh well.
Any tips on 're-learning' to jump and hop?

delay? Are you pressing
first before jumping or something? The jumps seem the same as they've always been, apart from distance.
HEY GUYZ I found a 4 bar connection on psn and I'm practically marrying the guy.
Got a good 3 bar connection with Mature from GGPO too! <3
updates may well be slow over the holidays....

GG yesterday GunSmith. I think the trick is to have a wired connection - thats why it went rather well yesterday. plus today im gonna ring my inet prov. to reduce the ping so it might work even betterGunsmith wrote:delay? Yeah, I haven't noticed anything strange with jumping. Are you sure it's not just display lag?

oh yeah good point, if this is your first time with a fg on a hdtv, you need to check your tv settings - set it to game mode or turn off all effects/post processing or try to get a vga cable

Hey I'm new to KOF and was wondering about how character choice and team composition is generally handled in high level play. Is it considered ok to just pick 3 favourites and arrange them by meter usage, or do you actually need to have more of an overall strategy with your team construction?

Re: KOF XIII General Discussion/Rant Thread
I've read that some players like to build their team by putting characters that build stock fast first. Since I'm new to XIII, I still don't know which would those characters be. Back in '98 they used to be characters with projectiles and multiple hitting moves. It's been a while since throwing projectiles build stock, so perhaps it'd be better to use fast characters first then those with lots of corner combos that require multiple stocks (Kyo and K' come to mind) last. It has been discussed that grapplers are better to use at the beginning since grapples don't build stock for your opponent. Grapplers were amazing in '9, but it no longers seem the case.
Of course someone else might correct me on this.
2. Thank you, controller, for making me look more of a n00b than I'm already am. No, dudes, it's just that my controller's directional pad is malfunctioning.
Fortunately I have a spare one (SFIV edition Bison ver. which I don't recommend), to play on GGPO. Yeah, everything is in order and I LOVE IT! The timing of
chains seems different than in both '98 and 2k2, virtually as easy as in XI.
Thanks for the prompt help, though.
Oh, BTW, does anyone know where can I get more info about the story? Like how in hell did Mature and Vice survived? Are they zombies brought back to life because of Orochi's semi-awakening? And how important is Mushroom and his little buddy?

Will try to use wired access, hopefully it'll work unlike with KOF'98/2k2 UM for Xbox live. Still it's quite a nuisance for somewhat-casual gamers like having to plug the modem closer to the console. I don't have that kind of issue with other FGs.Mature wrote:I think the trick is to have a wired connection

1. Should've explained myself better. It was more of having to hold up for longer in order to jump.Gunsmith wrote:oh yeah good point, if this is your first time with a fg on a hdtv, you need to check your tv settings - set it to game mode or turn off all effects/post processing or try to get a vga cable

Re: KOF XIII General Discussion/Rant Thread
There's less team synergy than there are in tag games, but you can essentially pick three favorites and order them by stock generation and clearly put your anchor last.
Of the thousands of KOF replays I've seen, vary rarely do I notice similar team order except for when I was watching KOF XI videos.

Different system from older models so expected to be slightly different from what you are used to. Coming from a 2k2 background, i do know there is a slight "weight" difference when jumping, but nothing that make it feel like i have to learn hot to jump again. Its only the arc of the jump that has changed dramatically, which need tuning up really.

Re: KOF XIII General Discussion/Rant Thread
I need to get back on that KOF train, been so busy lately. I hate the Holidays! Bah Humbug! All I wanna do is sit on my ass and play KOF all day.
Not sure what to say about team order because I have seen wild things happen. Like when I saw Mr KOF using Ash and Saiki on the same team which I thought personally would be a bad build. He actually did really well, so I guess it all depends on how you use each character.
Everyone needs to vote for KOF in anything it's apart of. Especially all these game of the year or best fighter of the year polls out there.

Re: KOF XIII General Discussion/Rant Thread
So, I took my 360 hard drive and the game to a friend's house, and while it let me use my save file just fine, it did not allow me to use my DLC characters unless the system was connected to the internet. That's some bullshit.

Thus DRM compels thee, this is why save data storage can only be accessed in such a manner.
Btw does your friend's 360 account use gold or silver? That might also be causing an issue.
