What's with all these no-names getting the game first and then posting up their "netplay" tests and giving vague reports like "it's ok" or "it was good, somewhat playable"? I've never heard of Zerp until one day ago. I know of Jebailey though - he hosted a huge SF4-MVC3-MK9 tourney awhile back.
We need solid info like what PenPen wrote:
1) Is there input delay if you play against someone who supposedly has 4-5 bars?
2) Is there rollback code to compensate for lower quality connections?
3) Is there stuttering/spikes even with players of similar quality connections?
#3 initially was the biggest problem with XII. Stutters/stops everywhere. There was a patch that addressed it, but after that patch, #1 became a huge problem. It was like playing underwater - nearly unplayable. WORSE than SF4's netcode.
Like I said before, a test between me and SS is a great litmus test for the netcode in XIII because I live 3000 miles away from him. My pingtime to him is about 50-80 ms. GGPO and BB's netcode handles this brilliantly. If I cannot get a lagless match between him and me, the game is essentially dead to me; I'm not close with the remnants of the KOF community here in Hawaii - they moved on to SF4 and I honestly don't have the same drive to deal with them again.

Re: The King of Fighters XIII/KOF-i News Thread
So, I did a little research and I think I may have reacted too quickly on this one. GSS seems to be a matchmaking library rather than just a simple networking one, and it's the library that SNKP have been using all the way back to those PS2 ports that had online play in Japan only. I even found some posts on 2ch from two years ago complaining about how shit GSS was. So as it turns out, the fact that they're still using GSS might actually have some bearing on how performant the networking is this time around :/SonicTempest wrote:Long story short, the fact that they're using GSS means nothing.

According to the article and most observations... Netcode is SF4 level...

got some games in myself today and I gotta say that its pretty playable sometimes there is delay but it isnt something that will make your combos drop its better than kof12/vanilla mvc3 but I would say its about equal or abit worse than ssf4ae
was playing with a friend he lives about 15 miles away only reason it was delay for me is because I left the stream running but I paused it and it was no lag I say its equal to sf4
However, the real test comes when the servers are activated between November 22 (NA Release) to December 2 (JP/some EU areas)its actually better than he described i played with a guy in soCal and im now in Hawaii and he said it was pretty good, only minor input lag he said....mind u it was only 2 bars, now i played UMVC3 with 4 bars and that #### lagged throught out the match.... KOF13 netcode is fine....waaay better than KOF12

people are going around saying there's no lobbies, but it isn't coming from people who have the game yet, so someone should at least clear that up.

Re: The King of Fighters XIII/KOF-i News Thread
JeBailey, the guy that runs the CEO tourney here is the guy that played Zerp. He's pretty much bombing the netcode as well, as I am in the Facebook group for the Orlando FGC and read his thoughts earlier. It'll be interesting to see how the others react.
Since I'm no good and don't really give a fuck if the online is butter or not, I'll still be playing it online. Also if it is at least up to par with SFIV like some say, then it'll be fine with me. I've played people with 1-2 bar connections from countries that I couldn't identify and had a smooth game, but played full signaled people in the states and felt like I was playing a screenshot.
Just be gentle, Orochinagi. It'll be the first time I've played our native game against any of you.
EDIT: I was reading through my Facebook, and on November 22 of last year, I posted Prince's 'Let's Go Crazy'. I intend to do that this year.

Re: The King of Fighters XIII/KOF-i News Thread
No, one bar is probably somewhere in Europe or MidEast.Iie-Kyo wrote:PenPen, is there some way to confirm if the 1 bars you were getting were to local Chinese players?
If it's 1 bar to local Chinese players and you're getting underwater gameplay, then my fears have been realized. However, if it's 1 bar because you're playing with some other lucky son of a bitch that got it in the US, then yeah, that's acceptable.
This also indicates that netplay between you, me, and SS will kinda suck - suck more than it does in SF4. :(
I haven't touched the game today though.

Soooooo basically 2 bars is ok, good for spamming fun, but probably crappy for real KOF matches. What we want now is a review of 3 /4 bars.

Re: The King of Fighters XIII/KOF-i News Thread
Hey guys, just wanted to add to the whole netcode discussion. I was fortunate enough to get a copy of the game a couple of days ago and we tried playing online with another friend who lives in the same city as me. We got 3 bars and I have to say it IS more than playable, but we did suffer a few minor hiccups (nothing too serious though). I was able to perform some drive cancels without much hassel, but I worry hyper drive combos are going to require some getting used to (at least with 3 bars). We also played against a guy who had 1 bar and I have to agree, it was unplayable (but at least it didn't disconnect, as it does in games like MK9). Hope that helps and if you would like to know anything in particular about the game, feel free to ask.
Cheers.
Cheers.

Re: The King of Fighters XIII/KOF-i News Thread
I mean this should go without saying , but damn. I mean these people got the game early. Really...Nobody suspects issues and problems before hand? Crap like this always happens. In any case there's been a lot of good reviews of it so far that I read on the "I Got the Game!" Thread on Atlus's KOF board. You should deffinetely check those out. I watched that vid on Shoryuken and it seemed fine to me, kid didn't know what he honestly thought of it. Someone figured he was a Capcom fan trying to get ppl off KOF XD.
Anyways , Looks good to me so far. Ya gotta expect problems here and there , esp if you're facing an idiot with bad connection to start that assumes all of a sudden his online is going to work well with a higher connected person >_>

Please answer the questions I posted earlier in this thread.L1r wrote:Hey guys, just wanted to add to the whole netcode discussion. You can do HD cancel combos on muscle memory so that doesn't necessarily count. I need some solid evidence here - does it play like as though he's next to you? Was there no input delay or some sort of input delay GGPO-esque prediction code? Was there rollback? etc

Re: The King of Fighters XIII/KOF-i News Thread
I noticed that too. Capcom isn't going to lose its entire fanbase to one game, so what's the problem with letting more franchises shine? It's like the hubbub with MK9 and its viability in the scene, as most say it won't be around for next EVO. They're really too busy sniffing the inside of Yun's hat or Wesker's trenchcoat to notice that there are other viable games out there. The Monster wrote:I watched that vid on Shoryuken and it seemed fine to me, kid didn't know what he honestly thought of it. Yea exactly Shiny. As a fighting game fan for many years I can't see myself being a fanboy of just 1 game my entire life. I don't get why people are so protective of their 1 little fighting game and act like nothing can be good in comparison. You miss so much with that mindset and it's just flat out silly. Another thing that adds to the problem is the trolling which starts as a joke, then it becomes serious hate like with MK.

Re: The King of Fighters XIII/KOF-i News Thread
It's because the reality is Capcom is an illusion that has been standing on one leg for the last few years now. The only way they stay up is with the crap they pull because they know their hardcore pro players are going to buy it regardless of them bitching or not. It's how they get away with robbery every time. I mean SERIOUSLY Ultimate MvC3 got better reviews then MvC3? What kind of joke is this? You put out the same game months later with recolored stages and 12 characters and the spectator mode we were promised as DLC which should be in every fighting game they make , as a somewhat full priced game. Think about the actual retarded nature of that.Shiny wrote:I noticed that too. Capcom isn't going to lose its entire fanbase to one game, so what's the problem with letting more franchises shine? All I gotta say is I'm glad more fighters are starting to show up now and they're really bringing in their own style of play and everything else. KOF 13 really has an amazing poetential to whoop some ass. Everybody knows it too.
