Here's a project I was discussing over at CX to try to determine characters who we feel are top tier:

Let's try something a little more different, let's take a more logical approach. Help me compile a list of "Top Tier Properties" criteria that we all feel that are important, then we'll start grading each character individually (In no particular order):
Feel Free to add or remove some that you feel are redundant or not important.


Well it's not complete yet, but more importantly I'll add values for each category (most of them out of 10).
-Ease of use /10
-Speed and overall manuverability /10
-Damage Overall /10
-Ability to deal high damage in a short amount of time /10
-Pokes /10
-Priorities /10
-Good DMs /5
-Zone control (Kinda like pokes but O.Shermie can't really poke but she can sure as hell zone you if used properly) /10
-Normals (kinda like pokes, but some normals just combo better & are meatier, think Krauser vs Beni. Beni can poke but normals aren't like Krauser) /10
-Ease of Comboability including BC combos /10
-High / Low mind games and overall (Crossups etc) option starters /10
-Unblockable throws/ Command Throw /5
-Good Offense /10
-Good Defense /10
-Counters /5
-Dependable anti-air (I dunno if this is the same as counters, but it seems as though a whiffed counter is still safer than a Oniyaki type one) /5
-Ability to build meter quickly /5
-Ability to be competently strong without meter /5
-No real bad match-ups /5

The reasoning behind the values. If the question is a yes or no question then it's usually out of 5 (Command throw?) If it's a property question that everyone has (Good Offense?) then it's out of 10. I removed OTG because it's too similar and I don't think it even deserves +5.

If this is ok with everyone then we should start rating each character in their own respective threads. Remember, if they are just average (compare it to everyone on the rooster) then by definition give them a 5/10. Let's say Athena is a 10 for pokes and 10 for priority. When rating someone like Bao, ask yourself, "doe he have better priority than Athena?" That should help make it more representational. Afterwards, we can add more weight to certain properties like say you feel that "Priority" is really important well give a weight of 2.0, so multiply all the values by 2.0 and so on.

This is a work in progress so I need all your help, kinda excited to see the results so if there's no objections I'll start heading to the individual threads...

EDIT: Looking at the criteria I was thinking that certain categories definitely need to be weighted.

Priority needs to be /20
Ease of use needs to be /15
Pokes needs to be /15
Speed and overall maneuverability /15
Normals /15
Good Offense /15

The rest are slightly less important, think of Athena, Billy and Choi and you'll know what I mean.
