This post will be continually added as long as I can get more information.

= Advanced =
b,b: Backward hop. Some characters can do their air-only moves here.
f,f: Forward run.
AB: Rolling. Holding backwards does a backward roll.
On block, b/f+AB: Roll escape, requires one stock. b+AB rolls backwards, f+AB rolls forward.
ABC: Stock burst. Requires one stock.
Super motion with AC/BD: Directly execute SDM without stock burst. Requires 3 stocks.
During any normal, f+AB: Roll cancel ala 2k2. Needs a stock.

= Extra =
b,b: Backward hop. Some characters can do their air-only moves here.
f,f: Forward dash. IIRC this is something different from 98. Some air only moves cannot be used here. Is much faster than before.
AB: Evade. Character is invincible.
Any button during evade: Evasion attack. Can followup with specials or supers.
On block, AB: Roll escape, requires one stock. b+AB rolls backwards, f+AB rolls forward.
Hold ABC: Charge power, your character will charge his/her power bar as long as you hold the buttons.
ABC when fully charged: Enter Maximum mode, you need a stock from Extra mode obviously.
Flashing life: Gives a free DM, or if you have a stock, free SDM. However note that unlike 98 you cannot abuse this, after executing a DM, you will need to wait for about 1 second to do another afterwards.
Q. Max: ABC when executing normals/certain specials. Immediately enters MAX mode, also has some frames cancelled, so you can add to normally unextendable combos. It seems that it can be done when your character is performing a jump normal as well, and seems like it can be done mid-move for special moves. Must have a stock ready.
During any normal, AB: Evade cancel. Your guy immediately does an evade, and you can press a button do do an evasion attack. Needs a stock ready.

= Ultimate =
Mix and match Advance with Extra. Before you choose your characters, choosing Ultimate will lead you to another menu. Choosing all features from the same mode will get you a result of using that mode as opposed to being called Ultimate (ie. I chose Run + Rolling + Advanced Bar = Advanced instead of Ultimate)

- Running/Hopping -
Choose what tapping f,f would do, a forward run (Advance) or a forward hop (Extra).

- Rolling/Evade -
Choose what pressing AB would do, rolling (Advance) or evasion (Extra). Note that the evasion attack from Extra comes with choosing evasion, but not rolling. It has been rumored that you can break throws when you're doing an evade with Ultimate (not possible with Extra). Note that regardless of what you choose here, pressing AB while blocking will result in a guard cancel roll (as long as you have a stock). However, pressing AB while doing a normal will have different results (if you have a stock).

- Advance/Extra -
Choose your way of gaining the super bar. Advance allows you to keep stocks so you can do stock burst for max, or directly execute SDMs for 3 stocks. Extra's bar allows you to press ABC for stock burst (only 1), and allows you to do Q.Max as long as you got a stock ready and you are doing something that's Q.Maxable. Also, the Extra bar gives you the flashing life thing as well.

These are probably the most pointless additions to 98UM. It's not like people uses SDMs a lot in 98, and even it would be better to activate the Max Bar, since you get a boost in damage dealt. Never found any exciting use to roll cancel.

Advanced was already good enough without that crap.

f,f: Forward dash. IIRC this is something different from 98. Think of it as something more like SvC's forward dashing. Air only moves cannot be used here.
Why? :(
ABC when fully charged: Enter Maximum mode, you need a stock from Extra mode obviously.

How much time does your char take to make their Max mode animation?

1 second between DMs? Fair enough, though Extra wasn't that exciting before.

Bait CD counter with a poke, roll, go to town with combo.

I don't think doing SDMs without stock burst is pointless after you get hit by a low B, low A into Mu Shiki SDM with Kyo or Daimon's close C into hcbx2+AC SDM. This is a major change here, and getting hit by a normally decent combo in 98 will become an OMGWTFOW combo in UM.

For Extra mode, the flashing lifebar stops flashing for about 1 second. So unless you got a stock with Extra, you can't do any DMs/SDMs until it starts flashing again.

From what I tested, Q. Max only works for Extra mode, so I'll update it. Also, it seems that it can be executed mid-move as well.

Updated top post with some infos. Roll cancelling works in Extra mode too.

Well apparently I tested Extra mode and that roll cancelling stuff doesn't work, instead you do an evade instead of rolling.

Tried more with Q.Max, basically, in addition to normal moves, certain special moves it's possible to press ABC if you got a stock ready with an Extra mode bar. That means you will enter max mode, and actually when you're executing the move itself. By doing Q.Max during special moves, it will shorten some frames (to what extent, I don't know) or make you recover faster since entering max mode will make your character a little faster than before. Also, normally uncomboable stuff can now be linked together, but it depends on the move you Q.Maxed from.

A simple example here.

95 Kyo, qcf+D,D -> rdp+B -> ABC

95 Kyo will enter max mode right after his rdp+B hits. He recovers faster than normal, so aside from doing dp+C like normally, you can do stuff like rdp+D or hcb+K which wasn't possible before.

Also, as mentioned it only works for *specific* special moves. The list is being populated over at FightClub nao. Also, even though some special moves can be Q.Maxed, it doesn't mean that you can do it at any time you'd like. Eg. Kyo's hcb+K, you can do Q.Max at the first hit but not after Kyo blasts someone away.

Seems like some people are confused about what Ultimate Mode is for, so first post updated.

Also, obviously command moves can be Q.Maxed. Just got that confirmed.

Some clarifications about Extra Mode:

- In extra mode, if you have a stock stored and your life is flashing and you do a DM, only a normal DM will be done. Your stock will be used up and your life will continue to flash. (As opposed to if you do a DM without a stock stored. In which case your life will stop flashing for a second or so).

- So if you want to do an SDM, you MUST enter max mode, or Q.Max first.

- Speaking of which, how do stock transfers in Advanced Mode between characters work now? Is it still affected by the smiley faces thingy, or do characters transfer whatever full stocks to the next character?

Also, is there a guard meter or any indication that you're about to be guard crushed?

The smiley face system is gone now. I think the next character will get an extra stock in Advance, but the Extra bar doesn't seem to be any shorter this time around.

On another note, Extra charges much faster than in the old 98.

Thanks for the information. I expect I'll have many more questions coming soon, so I'll create a new thread for the FAQ soon. I've already begun writing it.

next character gets the stored stock in ultimate mode if you are using extra power bar.
