Oh well, someone took the "Holier than Thou" attitude to spare himself from further embarrassment. So I have to find other stuff to comment.
Look at this philosphically. Why is there a Heaven and Hell notion on the minds of many humans regardless of cultures and races? Do good and you go to Heaven, do evil and you go to Hell. People want to know that the deeds they commit have an effect on their lives. Even so, that didn't exactly stamp out crime, evil and etc.
Humans wanted to emulate the Supreme Being. Therefore, Heaven on Earth is made. Humans shall judge the deeds of fellow humans and deem their punishment by the powers vested upon them. Celestial or Terrestrial.
Rape is a crime on a micro level. Drug trafficking is more on the macro level.
It is not an easy task to control the population. The idealistic way would be to educate people on the dos and do nots, infuse them with the correct moral values and what nots. However, if there are no punitive measures for those who strayed, there is no deterrent for doing wrong. Harsh punishments do not necessarily mean the disregard of human life. It is to instil fear. If this fear did not register on someone and he/she committed a crime, to rein in the rest of the population, to make sure no one follows him/her, we have to punish him/her.Shadowsonic wrote: STILL, does a human being have the absolute right to dictate what the length of another's life should be? I personally don't think so. Unless people are at war (which is clearly not the case here, unless you characterise the situation as some sort of bizarre war on drugs), people should not have the power to end others' lives. Does it really make sense to have one's life, even if he is a criminal, in the hands of a small group of people or (in Singapore's case) a single person?
I can think of some extenuating circumstances - for instance, the men who brought death to millions of Jews, Gypsies and supposed "inferior" peoples during the Holocaust probably deserved to die. However, is something like this ever likely to occur again? I doubt it.

I never said that, although I guess I should have been more clear. AW was the one that brought up the whole issue of rape and aggression in the first place, altho I never said I disagreed with him. My point was that I believe that some arousal must occur in a rape, whether as a result of physical attraction or the arousal caused by power, AW, however just made a definite statement: "Rape is about power" (or something like that), which I do not 100% agree with.ShadowSonic wrote:Admittedly there is some overlap. Still doesn't mean that the two propositions are mutually exclusive.Sheba wrote:AcidicEnema wrote:Ya know. Arguing that rape is about domination and power isn't mutually exclusive from arguing that rapists would rather rape hot chicks than fuglies.
Well, there are a lot of rapists who does that on old women because they are *GASP* easier to dominate.

Here's what really happened the night of Tookie's execution.
Murder Alley was a hard place. Unforgiving. Even the other prisoners knew that. Even though Senator Huggins had passed the Bleeding Heart Bill, which outlawed the death penalty, rock music, and harsh language, Murder Alley was still reserved for the most hardened of criminals.
Rowdy Roddy Piper and Steven Segall waited until the dead of night inside the prison. Their plan had been perfectly orchestrated up until this night. The hoax robbery that had gotten them inside, the bribes to the sympathetic guards to get them their equipment, it had all been like clockwork. They had invested far too much into this plan to blow it all now. They had to remain calm, and most importantly, patient.
At exactly 12:15 AM, Steven Segall waddled over to the poster of Charles Bronson high fiving Ted Nugent that he had placed over their secret compartment. He saluted those brave men of a bygone era of Justice one more time. "I'll do you proud, fellas," he said, wiping a tear from his eye with one sausage-like finger. He pulled out the duffel bag and put it on the floor between them. The two looked at each other, nodded, and suited up.
Picking the lock of their cell was easy. So was sneaking past the sleeping guards. The hard part would be braving Murder Alley. Some people said it was full of toxic waste, and that the criminals that were sent there all became scary mutants. Some other people said that it was the evil of their acts that had warped them so. Either way, the two of them knew that their best chance was a surgical strike.
They successfully snuck past the first few cells where the monsters slept fitfully. None of them awoke, and if they did, they chose to remain silent. Roddy Piper said a prayer to himself in thanks of this.
Finally, they reached the end of the hall. This was it. This is where Tookie Williams lived.
He sat on a throne made of the bones of people that his gang had killed. He had a clipboard in his hand, and he was writing on it. He looked up at the two of them. His eyes glowed red with the flames of Hell itself. The door slowly swung open.
Finally, he spoke. "Won't you come in? I was just getting ready to send out the secret "Kill" order to all the people I supposedly kept away from gangs. The streets shall run red with blood on this night! HAHAHAHAHAHA! His laughter seemed to shake the foundation of the building.
Simultaeneously, Steven Segall and Rowdy Roddy Piper turned on their proton packs, took aim at the powerful negro, and opened fire. The proton beams surrounded him, and he let out an inhuman howl. "NOOOOOOOOO!"
"Be careful not to cross the beams, Steven." Rowdy Roddy Piper's teeth were pulled back in a rictus of JUSTICE as Tookie writhed in pain.
Finally, Tookie Williams exploded in a shower of sparks, as the ghosts of every single victim of the Crips flew out of his broken body, and up towards a bright light.
The two men hugged heterosexually. Finally, the victims' families would have closure.
There, now you can feel ok about supporting murder. Happy.
