You have lucky computer then.
I thought divx and xvid were the same thing, just one's free and the other's not (like same diff between x264 and h264). Well, whatever S~M is using for their encoding now doesn't play properly in VLC so I can't use it to watch Rozen Maiden Ouverture. Not that it's a problem anymore.

One Piece was a good try.
I still find it a bit entertaining, though it doesn't make fucking sense at all now
I was gonna give the new Saint Seiya OVAs a chance, but I'll wait until they're ALL released here, with the old (and lovable) mexican spanish dub (we already got the Sanctuary chapter dubbed, and it's teh secz). For some reason, I can't stand the really craptacular japanese voice acting:
-They tend to exaggerate EVERY FUCKING line ("PEGASAS RYUSEIKAAAAAAAAAAAAAANDFASJKDBHASAJ").
-90% of the characters speak like girls / homos / emos. Only Muu, Doko, Shion, Ikki and Shura sound decent.

How so? They don't seem to be confusing people with the terminology or anything - especially when going from one arc to the next.Kyosuke Kagami wrote:One Piece was a good try.

But it's ridiculousness and unorthodox designs, IMO, is what makes it shine. Unlike other shounen series which is always "RAR ANGST" it's character designs and the abilities they could harness are so freakin' ridiculous, that it makes one go "HUH?!". Fortunately, the mangaka is able to instill the normal amount of drama and action to balance the series - and thus makes it more than just a "gag adventure manga".
You want something that doesn't make complete sense? Bobobo fits the bill nicely in the shounen category.

I tried to watch FLCL, but i just can't catch many of the episodes, more over in any kind of proper order. I can't be bothered to download them at the moment either. Is the manga better/worse/totally different and did anyone find it a particularly good story (manga vs. show) in the end?
Theres also another show that i have the same problem with, Eureka 7? Not sure the name, but same questions. Looks a little too "highschool drama" for me, the characters just seem too young but I havn't given it a fair chance. Thoughts or views on this one?
Full Metal Alchemest just seem too long to get into, and i don't get the feeling there will be much for me to anticipate from it. Did/does anyone find it good?
GitS:Second Gig is something im really wanting to pick up and delve into, any opinions (without spoilers please) on this?
Sorry for being way out of touch on whats new or popular. I havn't been able to watch any more school rumble past first season, the only naruto i ever watched were the fansubs but stoped at about ep. 87 - did it keep getting better? - and I have no clue about any of these doll/crasy molesting school girl animes that have been all over the dumpster shows.
I was shown the season finale of Avatar: The Last Air Bender and was dumbfounded that it was a Nick show. It was pleasently entertaining to watch. Havn't watched any of the episodes, just thes sason finisher/recap. Does anyone know much about this show?
Any other new (use the term loosely, im not too hip on the anime scene) animes to recomend?
Sorry, these are noob shows but they're all i really know of at the moment. Work just keeps me away from it all.

The manga is a lot more artistic and insane than it's anime counterpart, but a lot of people love the anime more. It's only about 6 episodes, so it won't be too hard to follow.ctrl+awesome wrote:I tried to watch FLCL, but i just can't catch many of the episodes, more over in any kind of proper order. It's excellent. Lots of drama, action, and memorable characters. If you think that it's too emo for you, you might want to pick up the manga instead - since it's got a bit more humor in that.Full Metal Alchemest just seem too long to get into, and i don't get the feeling there will be much for me to anticipate from it. There's lots of them being mentioned in this thread; but it all depends on your taste and the genre you like the most. Which is your favorite?Any other new (use the term loosely, im not too hip on the anime scene) animes to recomend?

2nd the recommendation for Full Metal Alchemist, very tightly plotted series, well paced, riveting ride with lots of continuity. Characters don't just show up, act out their plot sequence, and disappear never to return again - they persist, and go on living their lives, until the protagonists path intersect with theirs again.
I don't know much about One Piece anime, but the manga remains one of my favorite comics ever. At 44 volumes now, the storyline shows no sign of losing steam. Every time I think "Well, that's it, it finally happened, Oda Eichiro's finally run out of interesting stories to tell", he comes back and kicks me in the nuts for ever doubting his story telling skills. The most volume released also concluded a 2 1/2 year storyline, and gawd, what a finish it was. Absolutely riveting.

PROTIP: Read the manga. It's superior. It just is.Perfect Stranger wrote:2nd the recommendation for Full Metal Alchemist, very tightly plotted series, well paced, riveting ride with lots of continuity. For some reason when my eyes glanced over that sentence I thought it said "miserable characters"BP wrote: It's excellent. Lots of drama, action, and memorable characters.

Anyway for shits and giggles I'm watching old shounen anime that I never got to see before. Starting with Yu Yu Hakusho, and I'm almost up to the end of the Toguro tournament arc. It's really not that bad, though it's funny to laugh at all the old-school cliches.

Huh, Sensui hasn't even shown up yet where I am
I don't know about the manga, I try not to read manga so I can avoid nitpicking anime.
I've seen it, I think I'd recommend it. Although it's pretty emo at times, there is a lot of strong character development. I didn't like the reefing thing, but it ends up not being a plot focus so I didn't mind. And it is done by the same studio that did FMA, so it's worth a shot.Theres also another show that i have the same problem with, Eureka 7? Not sure the name, but same questions.
