Re: And I thought anime was dead
My regular anime:
Gintama 202 and 203 were hilarious. I missed it so much. ;_; As for One Piece, I don't think I've ever watched a show so emotionally jarring for me. So many highs and lows. Once I have a child I can't wait to watch One Piece and Gintama with them.
Occasion anime:
I was watching Kino's Travels while I had a job. I loved the premise and parables of each episode. I'm watching Mushishi now and it's good too. Almost similar to Kino's Travels but it's more supernatural bugs stuff than human emotions. Watching Aria now since I need the gentle breeziness of that show that you nerds talked about. :3 I enjoyed episode one because I fell asleep watching it.

Meanwhile I'm more like "needs more Kanji"Anti-K' wrote:Needs more Naoto.

I'm sure they'll get to the others, since the whole first part will probably focus on the first major part of the game. *firm nod*

Watching Sket Dance now mostly because I follow the manga. It's building up slowly...like the manga.

Re: And I thought anime was dead
I have to say that 2009 and 2010 were rather lacking in good anime that I would have recommended to friends. However 2011 is promising to be way better.
Have watched
Guin Saga
Just could have been better, I wish they makes sequels based on the rest of the saga, more than 100, unfinished since the author passed away.
Bakemonogatari
Rather nice
Canaan
Cool
Kara no Kyoukai
Watch it Watch it Watch it!
Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Exactly what Nanoha is failing to do, questioning the codes of the magical girl anime genre.
Is watching
Denpa Onna
What would happen if David Lynch decides to take on the Key bishoujo game formula.
Hidan no Aria
Schoolgirls with Guns Meet 1980s-1990s action anime. A damn shame that JcStaff studio don't seem to give the adaptation respect and love.
steins;gate
My recommendation for this season. While the six first episodes may seem slow, episodes from seven and onward are awesome and fucking rewarding to everyone who stuck to the series after the "three episodes" test.

Re: And I thought anime was dead
Hey, Sheba! It's been a while.
EDIT: Oh yeah, might as well remark on current series I'm following since I haven't really done that
Nichijou - hit or miss comedy. It has a unique directorial style and it's beautifully rendered, but like a lot of 4koma-based series the comedy can fall flat for entire episodes.
Sengoku Otome - yeah, another all-girl Sengoku mashup. Better than Hyakka Ryouran, but that's not saying much. It has a talking dog for some reason, doesn't even try to explain why.
Kaiji 2 - still incredible. If drawing things out to increase tension is an art-form, the producers of Kaiji have mastered it. The only downside is having to wait for a new episode.
X-men - thankfully it got better. Unfortunately, the stuff that isn't lifted from the source material kind of stands out in a very "I'm generic anime" kind of way. And Storm is pretty much all wrong. Eh, thinking about it now I still kind of hate it.
If I ignored Tatami Galaxy, I'd probably agree. But that one show provoked my interest profoundly enough to make up for a lot of crap in that period.Sheba wrote:I have to say that 2009 and 2010 were rather lacking in good anime that I would have recommended to friends. I was thinking about trying it, but isn't it a continuation or offshoot of another series?Sheba wrote: Is watching

If you mean chaos;head, you don't need to have watched or played chaos;head to understand steins;gate. I just watched the 12th episode, out of 24, and... Shit. Got. REAL.I was thinking about trying it, but isn't it a continuation or offshoot of another series?
