So I tried to watch that new Yu-something Merry anime cause the first episode had tons of cats in it ... fck I fell asleep watching it hahahah I think anime is done for me this season ... remember when they made semi-serious series with female characters that didn't look like lolicons? (Cowboy Bebop / Trigun)
Guess I'm just old and hatin now haha

Re: And I thought anime was dead
try watching black lagoon if you don't want that moeblob garbage; they're periodically releasing episodes to the oav series for it titled "roberta's blood trail," and so far, there's two episodes out
and revy is such a kick-ass female (literally at times)
the only other animes i can recommend honestly are princess tutu and great teacher onizuka, and maybe school rumble (but the ending to the series sucks)
princess tutu may seem like moeblob anime at first, but trust me, you will not regret watching it

Black Lagoon is indeed a very good anime, but I still attest that Read or Die is one of the best ever.

Re: And I thought anime was dead
Hmmm let's see.
Onii-chan no Koto Nanka Zenzen Suki Ja nain Dakara ne!! has started and the story isn't as toned down as I was hoping it to be, but naturally most of the perverse factors were taken out (like the true extent of Nao's paranoy or the main character's mom speaking of having SM sex once in from of him) . I hated the art direction, hated the fact that I forgot that Nao was blonde, hated the music, hated the VA selection and hated the fansub. Strangely enough, the studio is trying to do justice to Kusano Kouchi's art and his pseudo-unusual depiction of body bone structure. I might watch just to justify the fact that I got internet (?). It looks like this series might suffer from censorship and the main girl is voiced by Yuki Yagami's Avatar girl, har har.
Oh, btw, this is a comedy about a younger sister trying to have her brother see her as a woman... and violently rape her in that event. Of course that since this is a comedy, nothing like that is going to happen.
Freezing started as well. The chapter was more or less a prolog to how things work in the series, direction wise it seems that the series will be more serious and slightly different than the manhwa, and that's good; since the almost completely lack of personality development and plot direction and goals for the characters, coupled with overdone story telling and completely generic situations makes anything beyond the second chapter hard to bare. It seems that the series isn't going to be as censored as I thought, and they are taking advantage of that by adding a bunch of unnecessary lamb blood, uneventful nudity and panty shots.
Freezing is a series about a military academy where students are enhanced through technology, males and females are subjected to totally different improvements and are expected to work as team using their different abilities and "connecting" the technology that's installed in them... The main female character has Aphephobia and thus isn't able to form any type of team with anyone. The main male character is special as he seems to have been born with abilities and thus can use the "powers" from the curriculum without being modified, which makes him the only possible teammate for the female main character.
I don't know much about Hourou Musuko, but from the PV anyone can tell that the art direction looks completely amazing, I hope that the story is about self analysis and an actual identity crisis and and not about clothes or trap love flags or something.
It seems that Hourou Musuko is a series about 2 classmates who barely speak to each other, but that at the same they the exact problem, which is an existential / identity crisis.
Fractale hasn't started yet, but it looks like it's going to have a very nice art direction (not as good as Hourou Musuko, but good) and I liked the original premise: Technology has changed the world in a way that it's like a bad american MMORPG, and the main character "refuses" to live the life using that method and prefers to handle himself in a regular, modest way. Then he finds a nun in the run, and he has to help her using his own almost medieval means against whoever is searching for her. As of now to me the only negative factor is that the main character is a teenager and not a mainly man, like our usual apron donning handmaid Gunsmith.
Infinite Stratos just started as well, this is basically MS girls made anime. In fact pretty much all of the mech designs and attacks can easily be traced to some Gundam counterpart. This is obviously going to become an harem, as of now the series is about a school where there is only one male character, surrounded by (literally) a zillion of girls.
I won't follow Belzeebub, as generic Shounen stories are akin to me as drinking and infinite amount of chlorum while taking and acid bath inside a church, all of this while I need to politely talk to my family members (Add SF to it in any kind of form and that would equal to the ultimate torture).
Kara no Kyoukai is supposed to ~f~i~n~a~l~l~y~ finish this season with the last ova being released in blue ray. While the fact that the main character might have a "serial killer ~ street slasher ~ split personality that actually successfully killed people" kept me interested, I stopped caring when a mage popped up.
Right now, it looks like I'll spend most of my viewing time sticking to Index as I drool on the proximity of the eventual release date of Votoms and Unicorn Gundam ovas, then again the premiere season is just starting.

Re: And I thought anime was dead
I haven't had time to watch much of anything this season.
Other than the long Jump series and the ones I'm continuing from last season (Bakuman and Index), the only new stuff I've watched is Freezing (trashy shirt-ripping fighter girls), Kore wa Zombie Desu ka (crappy moe horror comedy), and Level E (comedic sci-fi mystery). Out of those, I can only recommend Level E, and even then only the first 3 episodes. Why? Well, you'll just have to see for yourself. I will say it gives off kind of a Gintama vibe.

Re: And I thought anime was dead
I've been watching some Hell Girl lately. It isn't too bad, mainly because it knows it's strong points and doesn't try too hard to be something it isn't. The standalone episodes mesh nicely with a slowly ongoing story.
Some episodes are a little hard to digest without laughing, due to the over the top petty reasons some people ask for revenge contracts. Maybe those are filler episodes..

This season is mostly OK with Madoka, KnT Season 2 and Level E (Wolverine is surprisingly and slightly better than Madhouse's previous Marvel effort as well), but next season is where it's going to get good.

Re: And I thought anime was dead
Well, it's time for a new season again... I haven't really pretty much touched anything, so I can't comment on it on detail.
Tiger & Bunny is -contrary to what the name might suggest- supposedly a "Sentai for hire" series focused on action and "why must we help people". Or something.
Dog Days is like a glorified athletic meet with moe blob designs and a very good VA cast (Wakamoto, Koyasu, Midorikawa, that tsundere queen loIi girl that voiced Taiga and I can't remember who else was on it). I only saw half of the first episode because the name sounded bitching and I totally hated it for it's over used cliche "foreign jesus" plotline and overall lack of seriousness and the usage of SD nekomimi
I saw Nana to Kaoru.... I can't remember why. it's a single OVA about softcore teenage SM, the basic premise is that a fugly (like my self) & unpopular guy (unlike myself) has a master / servant relationship with the school princess (who is his childhood friend ~ neighbor girl). The OVA itself was a bonus to the manga, I think and as such it's pretty much aimed to people that know the storyline (I didn't) and thus skips the babbler and gets into the SM completely. The basic idea of the series (for what I grasped) is that the main characters like each other but refuse to admit it, but instead of living the shoujo romance with flowers and whatnot he "tortures" her because it gets him on. He basically can't do too abusive things to her because otherwise she might run away; but for storyline sake purposes the girl is totally a closet pervert who will enjoy what's being done to her since it doesn't really hurt.
It kinda reminds me of the mistakes of my youth, (don't make me say it, har har). I have to say that I'm kinda interested to know if they do end up together... And if they do end up in a total master / servant relationship or an actual "normal" relationship. The OVA ends up with "to be continued" and the manga is still on going (heck, there is even an on going spin off)
Kaiji is there, I shouldn't need to add anything.
I'm interested in Showa Monogatari (because it's the era of head covered panty stalking thiefs) and in Hyouge Mono (a series about elitist japanese and tea ceremony? I hope that it has a ridiculous Yakitake humor undertone; or was this the series about a guy killing himself about a broken tea cup?).
... So, anyone else checking out something worthwhile? I know a lot of people are h4wt for Gintama', but what else? And please don't say Maria Holic. I heard that X-men was better than what most people expected it to be.

I was curious about Nichijou because it looked like Azumanga, but they're nothing alike. That doesn't mean it's bad though, actually it was quite entertaining.... I watched some other stuff but nothing else worth mentioning yet (Gintama aside).
Don't expect too much. It starts out okay but it settles into cliches about half-way through the episode.I heard that X-men was better than what most people expected it to be.

This is now a best anime opening theme songs thread.
Okay, maybe not, but share them anyway. You know you want to.
I well couldn't leave this one out, could I?
