The author didn't just add it to the list of games he played - he used it as part of his daily workout in addition to another PS2 workout-type game and played it for an extended period every day over a period of a number of weeks, and noticed that he WAS losing weight at a good rate.
In addition, just modifying your diet slightly isn't going to help all by itself.
