The novels that is, not the movies or the manga

So I watched Ringu again the other day and noticed (or re-noticed if you will) that it was based on a book. So I checked online and found out that it's actually the first of three novels in a series (Ring, Spiral, and Loop).

Now I'm thinking of reading said trilogy as I've always found books to be better than their respective movies. But I've seen the Japanese Ringu sequels/prequel and thought they really sucked arse so I'm a little hesitant.

I'm wondering if anyone here has ever read the Ring novels and if so whether they're any good. I'm also curious if the second and third books have anything to do with the lousy followup movies (here's hoping not). Anyone have any input on the subject?

I've read the first two books (just found the last one in the trilogy)

I find the books far more superior to the movies. All I can say (without giving stuff away) is that they were missing some minor BUT very important details in the film versions.
