I'm at KoF since the "Fatal Fury" days. I'm a great fan of Terry and Andy. When I found King of Fighters in the Shop, I can't stop. I must have it. So I bought it and since this day (I was 10 years old I think o.O) I was captured by the story of "King of Fighters". I have played all parts but I only have "KoF Neo Waves" left in my collection v.v The other ones...ngh...it's a family tragedy... .

When I was a little kid, my parents took me to Mexico for the very first time.
During my visit there, I would see these small areas where they held arcade machines.
They had MK2, SF2, NARC and then of course the KOF machines.
I saw that they had KOF2000 and KOF'98, and ever since the day I first played those games, I was hooked.

Started playing when kof 94 came out in the arcades.

Game was boom.

I had this friend called "Chuck" (spelt Chock heh), Chinese guy his enthusiasm for arcade games was contagious, having a place where it's 20p and 10p a go didn't help either with several places with games in them too back when arcades used to be in places like video shops and chip shops.

The first encounter i had with KOF that i remember was when I bought MI for my ps2,
but it definitely goes back far longer than that as i can clearly remember buying it on the assumption that it would be like the 2d incarnations.
My first 'true' fighting game experience was Vampire Savior when i was 11-12,
and I had already touched upon the series by then.

It's a bit embarrassing to not remember my first experience with one of my favorite franchises,
but what can you do?

When i was in Grade 6 or 5 a friend of mine bought CVS2 for his GC, after we played it in the arcades. I was familiar with the Capcom guys, but the SNK characters always caught my attention. We played that game for many months, eventually we stopped talking a few years later we get in touch again I'm dying to play it only to find he traded it in. Years later i get into fighting games again SF4&3rd strike, then i stumble upon 98um. Every since I've been an KOF addict, i own 98um(both on 360 and ps2), 2002um, garou, NGBC, XI, 2006, KOF collection on PSP, SVC Chaos, CVS2(if that counts), and 94&99 on my ps3(99 on psp).

I played KOF around July 2010.My first time I know KOF was when I see Metal Slug XX trailer on Youtube and see new two Military (Ralf and Clark).Because they both looks interesting, then I try to search all KOF Rom and play it on Winkawaks Emulator. The first KOF I try was KOF 2001,but I had not interest with this KOF.Then I played KOF 2002 and I get addicted with KOF and another SNK games.

*laughs* piss? really? Man, those machines must of been in really bad conditions.
I find it surprising how it still managed to work.

nah, that was the norm, the only thing protecting the machine was a chain and a little tarp for shade and rain

they were in horrible conditions, but things improved once people started to mix internet cafes and videogames, they started to put the cabinets inside though in undeveloped or even developed rural areas you can still see some outside

first kof was 94 on my neo geo cd, i hated that game. ss2 was the neo title that had me hooked for a whole year, till kof 95 came out. after kof 95 i was a koffer, never really cared for 94 though i did play it occasionally after wed get tired of playing too much ss2.

owned an aes before my neo cd but sold it cause games where too expensive, i was 11 at the time and my parents didnt think the prices where too cute xmad .

like most older generation peeps ive been playing snk games till the first ones on the neo. i always liked their designs better than capcom but their games never where that good imo. i think ffs was there first great fighter, ss2, kof 95 and a whole lot of fighters that where great after that.

The original Capcom VS SNK introduced me to SNK in general. Years later, I watched Icons on G4, and they talked all about King of FIghters. Tried XI for myself, decided that KOF was the very definition of purity in a fighting game.

Been hooked ever since, though lonely since I live in Indianapolis. I hate sports so much.

My KOF story is really really dumb
So back when I was really scrub-tier at fighting games (like, "I used a Hori EX2" scrub-tier), I was a big fan of Guilty Gear. Not the best choice for an early fighter, I know, but Sol Badguy is a BAMF.
So one day, many moons ago, I was googling random fighting-game related stuff. I remember someone mentioning something called 'GGPO'. I assumed the GG stood for Guilty Gear, so I was like "Guilty Gear... PO? What?" So I googled "Guilty Gear PO". Nothing. Then, just "GGPO". I found GGPO that day. GGPO was my first step to taking fighting games seriously.
So I looked at their game list, and I found Alpha 3, 3rd Strike (RIP) and the other usual games. But I also found KOF 98. Upon closer inspection, they had KOF 2000 and 2002. So I tried those games out, and I really liked them. So I played them. And played them. And still play them.
Yeah, that's what happens when you live in Brisbane, Australia, a place with next to no FG community and an even smaller amount of arcades. The internet is simultaneously the purpose and bane of my existence

I'll just say this. I knew as a kid what Fatal Fury was. Don't ask me how. My first dab of SNK fighters(because I always loved Metal Slug as a kid and thats a sidescroller obv) , was Capcom vs SNK 2. Which to me was just godlike. I always picked the KOF guys even over the SF characters I knew and loved (cept for Blanka , cause I love him). But that was it. I was really big into MvC2 , which I played in the arcades and ps2 a lot , and SF Alpha 3.

Years passed , Capcom gradually made me more and more pissed me off. Basically taking all my fond memories of my childhood with their fighters and such and just stomping them to the curb. When I preordered the MvC3 collector's edition , went to a midnight release with only like 20 people there and played a game that felt like a beta after a 3 months of having it , to find out months later they would re-release another version? I Said fuck that. I bought SF4 when that came out too , and I hated it. Didn't even bother with the other ones , though I've played Super at someone's house. Meh.

So basically to put this in perspective. I'm finally giving SNK the attention it deserves , and finally looking into new fighters. KOF was something I always secretly wanted to try but people deemed it as this grueling hard skilled game , which I'm sure in many cases it can be. But frankly I feel stupid all these years never at least trying it. I just recently bought 2 of the older titles and I'm really enjoying it. It's not so much hard to play , but a lot of the lingo is tough for me to get and a lot of the directional stuff is a little crazy for me. But it still feels like I'm playing an SF game , so it's cool. I'm still learning. I love the characters ,the stories and history. And 13 looks to be amazing , cannot wait to jump in and show people what a former big Crapcom fan can bring to the table , as well as put heavy players out more in the mainstream :) . I just hope the game is fantastic. Nuff said.

let's see if i can remember the details of my mysterious past as i pose in a brooding fashion with my arms folded and my eyes glaring into the night sky

ok i can't remember anything that way due to anime amnesia syndrome

i read reviews of kof94 (and later 95) as well as fatal fury games, but never had access to them then, but around late 94-ish early 95-ish i was able to score a copy of fatal fury special for the snes, and the DMs got me really hooked even though they were comeback mechanics

but i didn't really get to try playing a kof game until someone lent my brother his playstation 1 around late 1996 with a demo disc that had kof95 on it, and curiously i tried it out and was instantly hooked by the music and the presentation of just the intro alone--the part where iori puts out his own flames and gives you that smirking stare is unforgettable to any iori fan

eventually we got our own "next gen" systems in 96, me personally a sega saturn and my brother the playstation, and everytime we went to the store i was trying to ask around for king of fighters 95 for sega saturn only to discover the saturn version never came stateside, so i had to settle for playing 95 on my brother's playstation

i remember liking using kensou a lot, and liking the character voices and quips, and discovering the "my love" ending special, and thinking things like "wow, why doesn't street fighter do this stuff"

got involved in communities like the one that later became i.am/kof, saw kof97 news and combo videos and downloaded tracks of music from shambun's website, and when kof97 finally came out for sega saturn, i imported it as soon as i could--marking it my first ever import game, and i did buy a PAR with it

i can remember that when i first saw the designs to CYS, i remember not being really impressed a whole lot, thinking "those slots could have been used for characters like duck king!"--i was just looking at shinkiro's artwork then, but when shermie started talking and acting all cute I FELL IN LOVE <3

then i imported kof best collection, which i was upset about not including kof94, since i wanted to try it out

one two, skip a few, i think my interest in kof started to wane in 99 and i didn't really think much of k`, though sadly, unlike CYS, he never grew on me, and hasn't grown on me to this day D: it also didn't help that i was upset that CYS was dead, and i thought the orochi saga storyline was better if a bit convoluted in why it required a tournament to engage in orochi plans (as if that application is any better in the NESTS saga), and the storyline and characters just kept getting weirder and made me wonder "where the hell is duck king?!" and last, but not least, the quality of the soundtracks were decaying

i liked only a small handful from 99, maybe two tracks off the 2000 soundtrack (iori's theme was so sloppy), and 2001's soundtrack was just unforgiveably lousy that i just gave up on even bothering to check out future KOF OSTs

how can you go from a music department that produces awesome tracks like arashi no saxophone II, to something that ...makes gersploosh quality tracks in kof2k1?
