Newcomer here

What characters would you recommend for a newcomer to the series? If it matter, I only unlocked EX Kyo and Hotaru

For a beginner, I would try playing Terry, Joe, King, Mai, Yuri for starters.
Try getting used to their attacks, then work in their special moves. Get acquainted with each characters move list.
Just practice, and even build up your own team.

Is Iori good for beginners? And it seems impossible to unlock Mai. Do you have any tips for unlocking her?

Joe isnt in XI and Terry is MOTW style so is slightly different.
EX kyo is really strong and for brain dead gameplay can use gato. jD all day.
Iori is fairly easy to use, but not as strong as other kof games
