    Planning<\/h1>\n

    How do you ask someone about their plans for the weekend?<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. What are your plans for this weekend?<\/li>\n
    2. What will you do this weekend?<\/li>\n
    3. What are you doing this weekend?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

       <\/p>\n

        \n
      1. is correct but not the most usual expression.<\/li>\n
      2. is asking for a specific action in the future or for a decision to be made now.<\/li>\n
      3. is the most usual question: we are asking about plans.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        When we talk about plans, we use the present continuous.<\/p>\n

        (Subject) + (to be) + (ing verb form) + future time or context in the future.<\/strong><\/p>\n

        I’m playing<\/strong> tennis at 5pm<\/b><\/p>\n

        I’m staying<\/strong>\u00a0home, this\u00a0weekend<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

        (You can swap the order of the clauses) This weekend, I’m staying at home.<\/p>\n

        I’m going<\/strong> to the cinema tonight<\/strong><\/p>\n

        I’m having<\/strong> pizza for lunch<\/strong><\/p>\n

         <\/p>\n

        Note<\/strong>: events, films, trains, buses etc. are planned, they don’t usually make plans, so do not use present continuous.\u00a0 People make plans, plans don’t make plans.<\/p>\n

        X: The train is leaving at six
        \nO: the train leaves<\/strong> at six<\/p>\n

        X: The tournament is starting at ten am
        \nO: The tournament starts<\/strong> at ten am<\/p>\n

        Note: buses etc follow a regular schedule, every day, every time, so, use the present simple, which expresses this.<\/p>\n
