The Darkest day, for Austin Tx.

In the afternoon of 01-01-08 around 3: 30 PM afternoon, the last arcade standing in Austin Tx in the UT area; Einstein's Arcade, was officially shut down. :(

This is the sad truth. No previous notice was issued to anybody at the arcade, not even the manager was aware of what was going to happen until he showed up for work this day.

I am still a bit shaken by this. How could the owner do this to all of the regulars? ON NEW YEARS!!? :o

And another one bites the dust.

Sad, but at least you had an arcade up until now. Most of us lost them years ago.

WTF? Einstein's down too? That's sad. Really sad.

And I thought it had a nice spot and had all those people coming in and out and stuff.

Here's hoping that the UT union arcade is still alive...on second thought, maybe not. It's as good as dead.

That's so messed up. "We're tired to of this arcade business, so have fun looking for a new job." Welcome to the club of waiting forever for ports or driving way the hell out of town to get to an arcade.

Wow. That blows. And if you say that was the last one i guess that means the La Fun that was down the street from there was closed too.

Well, if it in anyway cheers you up, Conceptart.org/Massive Black is making a game studio in Austin. I guess thats apples and oranges though... =[

I thought I would chime in on this topic, despite being so late. Another arcade opened in Austin that is as good, if not better, than Einstein's. It's called Arcade UFO (http://www.arcadeufo.com/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). I visited the arcade when I visited Austin in Dec. Pretty good place, definitely more spacious than Einsteins. They had some SF IV cabinets, a Tatsunoko v. Capcom cabined, Blaz Blue, and a ton of other games that aren't found in your usual arcades.

Now, if I could only find a good arcade here in DC...
