So, again, I started playing KOF well....
I was introduced first to Capcom VS. SNK. Then I got addicted to the SNK side. Months later, I played a KOF1999 ROM. And I became addicted to it.

My Brother had a modded ps1 with alot of king of fighters games that he got from his friend from Georgia. I played Kof '98 first and became addicted to it so much, that i began throwing caps around screaming "OKAY!!!" around the house and trying to sound like Iori (but ended up sounding like i had something shoved down my throat). What really got me into it was the fatal fury characters (Fatal Fury was the shit in my town back then), i didn't know shit about every other character, due to we being poor and the arcade being burned to ashes back then....Then when Capcom vs. SNK came out, I totally 100% bcame hooked to everything SNK, especially Kof. The rest is history.......and becoming an SNK fanboy throughout the years....

SHORT ANSWER: I saw the Fatal Fury motion picture, and a friend bought KoF '99 because it was only $10.
My friend Quad was really into the emulation scene, crawling all over newsgroups and IRC channels collecting ROMs. He's obsessed with archiving things. Anyways, as a result of this, he developed a slight interest in the KoF series. Personally, I'd only played a small amount of Fatal Fury 1 on the SNES, and saw the motion picture on television and loved it. Shortly afterwards, I borrowed Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition from someone. God, that game sucked, but I stayed up all night, fighting Geese for a whole damn hour before I finally beat him (I didn't play fighters much back then). I hated it all, but put up with it out of my love for Terry. Then one day, I'm at the mall with Quad and he buys KoF '98 for Dreamcast. At his house, we mess with it some. I recognize it as that game with Terry I saw in a magazine once. I play as Terry, and am surprised to find he has many of the same moves as in Wild Ambition. But, I can't get past Choi, but don't care, because fighting games suck anyways.
Time passed, and KoF '99 was released on PSX for a measly $10, causing one of my friends to buy it. He brought it over and we tried it out. We didn't like it too much, so he planned on getting rid of it. But it had unlockables, which I'm a whore for, and the game seemed to at LEAST be worth $10. So, I bought it off of him. Every time he came over, we'd play it against one another. And gradually, all my friends and I were playing it against eachother. It went on, and we played that game to friggin' death. The more I played it, the more I realized the subtleties of the system, and fell more in love with it. What began as me striving to surpass my friends at it became much more... Not to mention that the story grabbed me.
Looking for movelists, because I was confused about how to do Power Dunk in '99, I found KoF Online. Via that site, I became exposed to a large majority of KoF-ness. At that time, KOF 2001 had just come out... I got insanely obsessed, reading about what happened to K' in the next two games... Unfortunatley, they had no U.S. release. I rante dKoF to myu friends non-stop, and got way too obsessed with it for a while. Things cooled down for a while, and then 2k/2k1 came out here. We played 2001 probably more than we even played '99.
I used ROMs to play and beat every KOF and see evry ending in all the games that don't have stateside releases. Bought a NGPC with a group of games. Started buying KoF wall scrolls, soundtracks... Spent two hours jsut sitting there in 2002, trying to design/perfect K' combos... I've become a complete and total raving KoF fanboy. Meh.

I saw a bunch of spriterips and had to know what games these were from. A friend had KoF 98 on the Dreamcast and I recognized the name King of Fighters from the sprite rips page and played it loving every minute of it. I started doing that whole "playing games... on the computer" thing. But I stopped that and started buying the ports of the games I liked. Which was pretty much all of them.

I remember playing Fatal Fury a long time ago and liking it a lot.
One day in a local discount store, I happen to notice Terry fighting Robert from AoF on some new game (which was KoF '94), a dream match of sorts of mine. I played until I got mollywopped by the China team...which was the 2nd team I had played...plus mother was hurrying me out of the store with the 'come on or I'll leave you here' comment.
It's been an on and off addiction since then.

Ah, the memories.
I remember skipping school(not nearly as enough tho) to play kof 94. but it wasn't 1994, it was 1996-97.
Then one day, they bring in kof97.
The jump from 94 to 97 was BIG.
I was really amazed.
It was... love, somehow.
Then there was this sexy girl that was just like Blue Mary, she would even dress in a similar fashion, and she would play all alone Tekken 1. Now, could i be arsed to play tekken 1? Obviously not, so absolutely nothing ever happened with that one hot girl.

I didn't play fighting games until a friend of mine (dexaler - some of you guys might remember him) introduced me to KOF'99. I played the series regularly after that, but I only got serious about improving my skill level after I played KOF2002 in the arcade against other Singapore ONers and got my butt kicked badly
I've still got some way to go though.
