Ignition pushing to fix KoF XII - make your voice heard!

Postby Iie-Kyo on Thu Jul 30, 2009 10:30 am

To mods: PLEASE do not move this topic. This place is one of the most frequented sections in Orochinagi outside of the Stupid room. I feel that for the sake of the future of ANY SNK game being successful in the states and in order to have US/EU ports of great games to get GOOD netcode, we will need to make our voices heard.

For those of you people who have been living under a rock, the US/EU release of King of Fighters XII has been met with tons of anger and RAAAAGE.

* First off Gamestop botches the street date by releasing the game early (which is often unheard of for Gaystop, who are actually known for releasing games late). Whether this early release was intentional out is up for debate.

* Then KoF XII gets released with UNPLAYABLE, horrible netcode. Worse than SF4's and this is to people who are nearby you.

* On top of that, content that's considered now STANDARD BREAD AND BUTTER for fighting games is not included. No Survival, no Challenge, etc. I would let this one go, but if they really wanted KoF XII to be a "rebirth" meant for the mainstream neophytes who can't do a basic B&B Combo with Kyo, they NEED to put the shit that makes the game PLAYABLE FOR THOSE CASUAL PLAYERS SNKP THINKS THEY'RE CATERING TO. Additionally this game costs 60 fucking dollars retail. A 60 fucking dollar game should be more complete than this.

* SNKP then plans a patch for the netcode on Tuesday.

* While we wait for the patch, the shoddy netcode gets glamorized on Kotaku. On top of that players find a game-breaking handcuff bug with Raiden vs. Elizabeth that does requires almost NO set up to do. Just one DM stock and getting Raiden's only grab DM to hit.

* Then the patch comes. Patch forces you to download a 700 MB file. Patch doesn't do shit.

Ignition and the rest of the SNK community at Ignition forums and SRK forums have had enough of this shit. Let your voice be heard. Don't let SNKP Japs set a precedent for future KoF and other SNK titles with shoddy releases like this. Ignition is hearing you, and they too are pushing SNKP to smarten the fuck up and to do this game's release properly. Netcode is the upmost priority. GGPO or GTFO. Add to the chorus here. Please be mature, succinct, and eloquent about how you express your thoughts - get SNKP Wapan to hear you.

Come on everyone. Help us fix this game. Even if you're international players, help us out - you'll get SNKP to improve the overall quality of their non-Jap releases of games, which will help you in the long run too! xmad

Looks like SNKP is aware of some of the issues at least:

The 'fix' for the Raiden bug is to do a crouch B after the DM to unfreeze Elisabeth's animation. However, they're also working on a patch to fix this issue.

While software update solutions are being devised, we can offer some tips to those users who are experiencing exceptionally poor online performance. First, we suggest limiting the number of players in a room to two, as the addition of a spectator with a slow connection can currently create latency for all users in the room. Also, if your Internet connection is configured behind a firewall using NAT Type 3, we recommend reconfiguring your setup to utilize NAT Type 1 (for PS3) or an “open” setting (for Xbox 360).

That second suggestion is just a fancy way of saying 'connect your console directly to your modem' which is going to happen on a cold day in hell

No word from SNK about this.

Sorry SNK. My ports have been forwarded properly and my router doesn't suck. Hell, as an added measure I fucking made my PS3 a DMZ JUST FOR YOU.

Try again SNK. Aim higher. >:)

Apparently the netcode is provided by a third-party vendor, GameSync - this is the same netcode used in SNKP's earlier PS2 titles that used KDDI as their matchmaking service.

Since Japan's internet infrastructure is so awesome, my guess is this has never been tested outside that environment, hence the shitty online experience everyone is having.

I'm happy with how forthcoming Ignition has been about everything. I just hope that they have the pull to get SNK to fix stuff and make the right decisions based on what their fans want.

I've put in my nice letter.

I don't care how quiet your voice is, when raised together with others, you get heard.

If SNK don't fix this, I'm hosting roms :3

Adam Greer posted this on fb

From SRK:

"So today there was some bad news posted up on the KOF XII FB, saying that they were still testing the patch and, basically, that it may even be further delayed because of Golden Week (a Japanese holiday if I understand correctly...)

This is what I know...

The patch started testing Wednesday. From a person who has been testing it, it is on par with SF4 and the game totally works with this new netcode. SNK is going to work through the holiday as well to get it out.

It also has to go through some approval process with both Sony and MS before it can be released...

I've been pretty pissed at how long it's taking but that does make me feel better.

This is the truth. I don't post here much at all but I thought this deserved a thread cause it's the best news I've heard so far period. This dude was very confident I would be happy with the final product... "

Of course they're forthcoming. They don't have to take responsibility.

SF4 netcode.

Bleh, still makes it unplayable for me. That's like Kaillera-style lag. You had 90% of the community asking for GGPO netcode. Ponder says he wasn't approached about it either.

Ah well, better than nothing, I say.

Now to fix the rest of the game...
