First five mins: Wow, this sucks. I can’t help but be reminded of that article about how jrpgs are simple button mashers in comparison to wrpgs. All I did was press X, with the occasional potion refill. I suppose that takes skill, especially if you’re a new skool button basher. Are they dumbing this system down even further. God I feel stupid.
Game is certainly pretty, with oodles of new costumes that I can already imagine are being prepared for cosplay/ sales – Snow’s necklaces bring back memories of Tidus’ accessories. Ugh.
So yeah, everyone’s like in war, but are dressed so damn well. Just look at those haircuts! Speaking of appearances, the dubbing seemed ok, and omg in lip sync!?! That was impressive.. until I was introduced to Vanille. After two minutes of her breathing and panting and squirming and generally annoying the f*ck out of me I had to turn it off and try the God of War 3 demo.

Read it somewhere that it was as linear as a thread. With that flaw, the game is denied a prefect score in Famitsu… or so I heard…

Never played it, but it was even mocked in a manga parody.

  3. Gunsmith says:

To be fair, most RPGs are linear. Still, I’m currently bored. Health is restored after every battle and you gain no XP??? 13 may well be Squeenix’s unlucky number.

  4. Honestly says:

Wow, the parody of this forum on NG.com is totally accurate.

  5. RaohSmash says:

“After two minutes of her breathing and panting and squirming ” yum?!? ooh no need to lvl up really sounds nice. i don’t like grinding to lvl up.

  6. Gunsmith says:

She’s not sexy though!!! It got a bit tougher today, actually had to use some potions… hmmm. I’m sure I recognise Snow’s VA…

  7. Gunsmith says:

After 3 hours of crap, suddenly they show you the crystal grid for levelling up abilities, not unlike FFX’s ability map- you unlock one ability which unlocks others, and while xp has been removed, you need CP to move along the grid, which means, in other words, nothing’s changed, just the terms have been swapped around. Levels are indeed a thing of the past, but the concept behind gaining strength remains the same!
However, I have yet to see an opportunity for grinding but I have a feeling it’s coming soon. Tbh I never thought grinding was really necessary to complete any of the FF series.
I’ve been thinking about YY’s comment about the linear aspect of this game and I thought he meant story. If it’s going to be as linear as a thread, I’m going to be rather annoyed, although placated somewhat by the stunning graphics. Good lord how much did this cost to make…
Well, I’m a little excited by the unlocked abilities: fire/blizzard/ruin etc and keen to see if I can start powering up or not… will let you know. The story finally got a bit interesting at this point too, thank God.

  8. RaohSmash says:

er i thought the redeeming factor of FF13 were the girls otherwise the male characters are sorta lame imo……..well isn’t grinding for unlocking all your powers to use. graphics be nice yes it be. millions was said to have been dumped into the game I thinks. just hope the story doesn’t get messed up in the end……….and hope’s it’s a good ending. i don’t like lazy, rushed, open to interpretation endings in an rpg damn it! when you put hours into an rpg i expect it to have an ending that explains what happened to everybody. remembering back FF7 ending sucks donkey ass for example (even though I never fully played the entire thing through). we paid for a good story in an rpg and we better damn well get a good one!

  9. Gunsmith says:

Agreed about the guys, omg Hope especially needs a good slap… and then maybe a Shining Wizard. The girls are all hot, apart from vanille, imo.
Wow, I’ve found out this game is anti-grinding! Even if you find a spot, the higher skills are locked! The game forces you to move on. Perhaps that’s good.. we’ll see.
FF7, really? I thought it was one of the most well written endings! Every other FF was just slash and chop, rescue the princess blablabla… FFX was… in fact I’ve forgotten every other story. Which one was good? I never finished 8.

  10. raohsmash says:

prepare to dodge all the junk that the vanille fans throw at you lol. story was nice for ff7 but it’s the ending i have a problem with. all you see is a bunch of red 13′s running around 500 years later. wtf? you don’t even know what happen to everybody afterwards. rescue the princess is basic formula you needs motivation to do something. lol what happen if the story in ff13 was to rescue hope, snow, or the fro guy who was tacked on for no reason…………you’d be like what i’m not playin x amount of hours just to rescue some dude lol

if you forgotten every other story then it didn’t have a big enough impact on you then. 8′s ending was ok because it showed what happened to everybody after final boss fight…………i never played the game though lol

  11. Gunsmith says:

When you see Red13′s kids running around (and remember he/she/it was the last of the species) you see that your team’s work, the pain and sacrifices paid off – the planet is restored, thanks to you. FF7′s theme was running with the first wave of “save the planet” mentality. It was a bit mature, imo, when most kids just wanted to get the princess, and maybe see her boobs, and her guns, if she had any.
Maybe I’ll get FF8 on PSN, but I’m worried that the graphics would look crap on HD TV?
Screw the lolita vanille fans! :D

  12. RaohSmash says:

or it could be that all of mankind was wiped out by meteor and red13 survived only because of it’s peculiar biochemical makeup and was unaffected by the radioactivity of the meteor and then it started to lay eggs in celebration and later on you see the entire planet is taken up by red 13s. we wants boobs and guns ye oy! or just play ff8 on your psp……….

  13. Gunsmith says:

that’s probably the best idea! I’ve played every other FF! Might as well. Did anyone here play Star Ocean the last hope?

  14. Gunsmith says:

It’s getting harder now and the weapon upgrade shop has been unlocked…. aaaaahhh nice!

  15. RaohSmash says:

every FF? including game boy ones, crystal ones, DS FFs, and the mmo FF11? if you did wow u hardcore FF fan.

  16. Gunsmith says:

    I meant Fatal Fury
