I needed to get out. Was invited to a gallery opening – pure evil in Hoxton. First thought that popped into my head was “Ah! Possible inspiration for my writing!” Second thought was “Ah! Free beer!”
Arriving outside the gallery, I was not suprised to see a tall slender woman in black, swanning about with a couple of bearded guys in tight blazers and trilbies. It’s good to be back. I then realised that I was wearing a smart shirt with embroidered flowers. Damn. Looking around I realised that there was a distinct lack of barely post pubescent art students with highly identifyable haircuts and trousers so tight they were sure to be still in the choir. I wondered if this was a good thing. Debatedly, keeping such persons in the choir is not a bad thing.
But who cares about the people, right? It’s about the art! Fuck that, it’s about the people. I socialised through art. Liking the art is one thing, but if I liked the people who liked the art, I felt the art was even better. If I met and liked the artist, then to me, the art’s value has tripled. That’s when I started telling my friends to come and see the work. If I got to sleep with the artist, I’m a fan for life

So, tell us about the art already! Oh yes. Um… it wasn’t very impressive, bar one piece that arguable held the attention, if only because you’re comparing it to Bacon. Strangely shaped black heads with dots for eyes with some text about feelings, well I’m sorry I’m getting old and get deja vu every time I see “new” work. I was more impressed when Pure Evil himself decided to graff the electricity boxes across the road with his trademark vampire bunnies. Interesting people here, this I like.
However, when I considered telling my friends to come and see the show I suddenly realised it was pointless. Another reason I loved opening nights is because the fucking gallery is actually open, whereas normally they shut at around six pm. A real public service. Yeah, keep it real for the students, part timers and unemployed. *Grunt*. But I tell you what, check out the website, it’s full of shit (I don’t mean that in a bad way), with lots more bunnies.
I do like street art, which is what the gallery is meant to be about, so I’ll come back another time- and when I do, I’ll be sure to sporting my trilby, yeahhh beeeyatch!
The My monster exhibiton runs from 15th May – 21st June.

Aha, so I’m not just a low brow beer swilling trendite. The question remains: Is that other place open after office hours?
